Hey guys, today I finally came to grips with the fact that I think there is something wrong with my transmission. Gear changes have been getting increasingly rough, finding neutral (when i want to) is tricky and shifting from 1-2 past neutral is choppy and loud. When I first got it I would catch neutral once or twice a month, now its around once a day. I have changed the fluid and my clutch is adjusted properly...whats the deal? Any suggestions would be great!

can you hear a slapping noise at idle? your primary chain could be in need of adjustment

if you listen at idle by the primary case you will hear a knocking sort of sound that is not constant but more random but often.. if you catch my drift. If you feel alot of lash from on/off throttle it could be loose.

OK thanks! Ill check it tonight then I leave the lab. As far as the lash goes I don't think that is a problem, its response is relatively precise.

Ok, no noise at all, but i do have an update. So on my way home I stopped by a lot and was just doin wheelies and whatever and realized that my clutch is starting to slip again. I just adjusted it about 6 weeks ago. Also, it seems like if that were the problem it would have the opposite effect on the gear changes bc it would not be so grabby....ugh! I'm getting ready to move in 3 weeks and don't want to be dealing with this. Is there a way to get a good view at the clutch without taking off the whole case? That little adjustment cover doesn't let you see much.

I'm have a similar problem, just the shifting from 1 to 2 is choppy and i hit neutral often.
Any idea guys that can help Driftingswiftly?

Already posted this but someone deleted it. [mad]

Taking the case off is the best way to look at yours if you wanting to check it out. If you're wanting an exploded view of what's behind it, I'll give you a peak at the '03 Parts manual if you want to post up your email address.

all right i'm having the same issue with my bike but it finally got bad enough for me to pull off my primary and check to see if i needed a new clutch or tranny but through the process of elimination i realized it is my transmission. now figuring out if it is the forks, the drum or gears and dogs is to be found out when i split my crankcase this winter. so drifting your next safe bet would be to pull off your primary and see if your primary chain is out of adjustment, your clutch plates are within service, and if it's none of the above. it's your tranny. oh yeah don't reuse your primary gasket.

I think I would like to see that exploded view if you don't mind. If you could send it to [email protected] that would be great. Thanks so much for your help guys! I think for now I am first going to try adjusting my clutch one more time and see if the problem is still there. I am about to pass 9,000 miles on my bike, 5,000 were put on by me in the last 5 months or so...is that a normal milage for a clutch to go? Thanks again guys you are the best!

Wondering i been having the same issue and now thinking back i didn't have it till i put the 10-30 royal purple max cycle in picked up a quart of the harley stuff today gone change it tomorrow

I like my 09 buell, but I like how my 17yr old kaw shifts.(Not near as noisey) The tranny is really smoother in every way.
