I've had several guys ask about doing this pipe in a no-repack version. It has stainless steel wool (which isn't supposed to burn out in theory) wrapped around louvered cores, so it's similar to the d&d pipe, but I use 3.5" bodies instead of 3" like they do. Not sure how long theirs are, these are about 11.75" roughly and it may be about an inch too long. Hope not, I don't want to cut it apart. I'm guessing it will be loud, but if they don't use any packing at all, then it will probably be quieter. My other pipe is out on loan at the moment in TX somewhere, it should be back from it's sound and performance testing sometime next week maybe.

Since I'm waiting on some other parts to finish a couple of other jobs anyway, I figured I'd give a few minutes to playing with this. I haven't decided on the outlet style to put on it yet, my boy wants slash cuts though.

I vote for black paint + dual 3" dual-wall polished/chromed tips. And of course an option for chin fairing mounts.

Looks great! [up] - Now if only I didn't like my Spec-Ops so much! :D

Might go with powdercoated and polished tips or the complete ends polished. Haven't really thought about it much yet. I'll probably go with 2" outlets though, the pipe is a little longer than the original and I may run into a clearance problem. I may need every last bit to make it fit without rubbing.

Slash cut are always the best. Might be fun if you did a straight right angle out both sides.

I cant wait to hear these in person, let me know when you get them done so i can come down.

Umm, it's stainless wool, so _theoretically_ it shouldn't burn out. In theory. Still haven't built the headers yet since I ended up catching a bunch of post-Christmas orders. All I did manage so far with them is cut up some tubing, still doing customer work and will be for a few more weeks at a minimum I think. I really want to squeeze a set in there somewhere though, I'd like to at least hear it sometime this month.

Where did you get the louvered pipe?....this is the exact thing I'm looking to build....2" pipe, louvered cores with stainless wool packing, 3" cans, mandrel bend tips with slash cuts

Those things look great! Are they much wider then the stock muffler? I can't really tell in the picture, Anyways, I've got a jardine muffler on mine and it came with brackets that your chin fairing bolts on to, completely separate from the muffler. I thought that could be a good investment for people wanting to keep the chin fairing.
I've wanted a muffler like that for a long time now, can't wait to see it on a bike.
I think just some really short angled tips would be cool, almost aimed at the ground, 45 or 30 degrees, don't want to loose any ground clearance.
Anyways I really like your idea.

The pipe above is the same width as stock, so the chin fairing will fit with the jardine brackets.
Since jardine seems to be having problems supplying the brackets, I'm looking into having them made as well, the design will be similar. No idea on price yet, I just went by the machine shop I have stuff cut at and talked to the owner. I should know something next week.

The pipe looks like this on the bike.

I was wondering, since you are making headers now and you make exhaust systems why not make equal length headers but not have them crossover? So each cylinder has it's own header and muffler. Would there be any benefit to this?
