I was a big Icon fan for their looks, but as I started trying on jackets I started to feel that, while they are high quality products, they lack some of the protection that alpinestars offers. I've tried on a few speed and strength but all where the lower model mesh style which I have never liked. So I stand by Alpinestars.... but this solely my opinion and I'm sure the right models in each company will offer good protection

i like ICON and have a few of there jackets. I am also going to order the new variant helmet. I like the looks of there stuff. I have the dead mans hand jacket and the strongarm 2 #7 which I just picked up for $79 instead of $275.

Always go for a CE armor.

And, honestly the best back protector is something like Bohn. The back protectors that come with the jackets won't be as good as a standalone protector that you wear under the jacket.

Speed and Strength and Icon seem to be marketed to stunt riders. Not sure why. I've never worn the stuff.

Personally, I always like to buy the stuff that is worn by road racers. A-stars, Joe Rocket, etc.
