Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know about this event, June 29th, 30th and July 1st, 2012: http://www.rideforsight.com/nwontario.php

I plan on being there and it would be great to meet other members who might like to make the trip to the "great white north"

We have some nice roads with twisties and some beautiful scenery.

Might be interested. Are there restrictions on bikes up there ? I have Keda exhaust and would hate to ride up only to be pulled over everywhere because of bike noise. Thanks.

Hey mnbuellrider,

It would be great to meet you if you decide to come up here.

There are two laws that apply, the Highway Traffic Act and the city By-laws.

The HTA says:
Noise, smoke, bells and horns
Muffler
75. (1) Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and excessive smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (1).

It means that if it's not OEM the cop can say it's too loud and give you a ticket... There's no db level needed. The same goes for most city By-laws.

The thing is that people run straight pipes and really loud pipes on their hogs and bikes with no problem - unless they were being ********* and the cop couldn't get them for anything else, then they'll get you for the noise & ticket you.

Good luck fighting the ticket in court as the judge will accept the officer's word that it was too loud for anything except unmodified OEM exhausts.

Having said that, if you drive reasonably in town and unless you sit at a light and rev your engine to make noise (especially near a cop ) or piss off a neighbourhood you'll be fine, it is really rare for a cop to issue an excessive noise ticket either under the HTA or city By-laws. Hell they even tolerate straight pipes in Toronto.:D

Good to know, similar laws here. It is a nine hour trip up but I have the following week off, so a good excuse. I will see how things shake out in June but I am always looking for a fun trip and this one is a worthy cause one. When I told my wife about it she laughed, she is blind and we donate whenever we can anyways. If my butt can survive the trip I will definitely try and make the trip. How fast do the hotels fill up on this weekend? Thanks.

I imagine they will fill up fairly quickly, it being Canada Day on July 1st plus the Ride for Sight event. There are places out of town which may fill up slower, also there are Provincial Parks and private camp grounds, if you are into camping - so I wouldn't wait too long to make reservations. I can try and find out for you this week, when I go into the Sault on Wed I'll ask at a few of the hotels.

9 hours is a long trip, but it'd be great to meet another Bueller if you decided to come up.

It is a good cause and I am happy to support it as well.

Dude, Count Me In! I live in Iron Mountain, MI and would love to make the trip considering I missed the dragon this year. I can get us really cheap hotel rooms up in Sault St Marie Michigan, The Company I work for owns the Park Inn Up there. Let me know what your planning.

Awesome BurningExample, I live an hour North of both Saults, so I don't need a place to stay, but you should pm mnbueller and see what his plans are (that is probably who you were talking to wasn't it :) ?)

As far as plans for up here, there are quite a few rides & activities planned as part of the event, but if there are some buellers coming I'd be more than happy to show you some of the nicer roads they won't have a ride planned for.
