Can anyone tell me how to set the idle on an 09 XB12Scg? From what I can gather through searching there is no mechanical adjustment. True? If not, do I need a dealer to set my idle? (Say it ain't so :()
Thanks

That's right, it's controlled by the ECM on the newer bikes. Don't know if a TPS reset would fix it or not, but it's worth a try and it's a simple procedure for your bike:

'08+ TPS Reset Procedure:

- Have the Run/Stop button set to Run.

- Turn the ignition key to the On position but do not crank or start the engine.

- Open the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.

- Close the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.

- Repeat the throttle open/close procedure a total of three times in succession.

- Turn the ignition key to Off/On

I may be misunderstanding this but are you talking about the RPM adjuster knob that is behind the left side scoop so you can adjust the R's on the fly? If so the adjuster screw knob is just behind the scoop most of the time zip tied to the frame support bracket.

Otherwise if your talking about the tps reset, Steven covered it.

Not on the newer Bikes (2008+).

- "Idle speed is monitored and controlled by the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and Idle Air Control (IAC) and is not adjustable." - (2009 Owner's Manual)

Thanks guys,
I think a TPS reset caused my low idle issue.

I recently did my 1k service. Changed fluids, adjusted cables/primary and did a TPS reset. Now the bike has a slightly low idle and is occasionally misfiring. (This is only when the bike is hot)

When It's acting up the idle drops to about 950-1000rpm. Supposed to be ~1100 right?

The bike ran fine before the service so I thought I just needed to bring the idle up a smidge. ...but if there's no mechanical adjustment and it's controlled by the ECM that makes no sense. Isn't the ECM able to make the corrections? (at least that's my experience with the cars I've tuned, I'm new to Buells though)

I would suspect fouled plugs. But I'm really good about avoiding short run cycles, especially during a cold start cycle.

Thanks

Will do,
Reading it over again people say to cruise at 3500rpm for a while after the reset. I didn't do that. Maybe that'll teach it to be nice to me.

Idle should be around 1050 - 1150 RPM going by the manual. But most bikes seem to like 1000-1050 though. Oh, and these bikes have a faster idle for a cold engine, and it drops when the engine has reached normal operating temps.

I'd at least check the plugs if not change them just to have the peace of mind. If it's not had a good "learn-in" ride, it may have run rich on the bottom and fouled the plugs. NGK Iridium (DCPR9EIX) are great, foul-resistant plugs.

You need a good stretch of highway trying to keep RPM's around 3200+ for about 10-15mins.

I'll swap the plugs as well.
Do you know for sure that the DCPR9EIX fits the 09? I thought I read that the newer bikes used a different plug design..

Sorry for all the noobie questions. I'm still trying to get all this info sorted out.

Thanks!

Today I reset the TPS and went for a long ride holding it at 3500rpm. Bike runs pissah' now. (As they say here in Boston)

I don't think I need plugs, but I have them on order and will change them anyway.

Thanks for all the help.
