I have a strange story about how I got my got my bike from the closest Harley dealer. I told this story to a buddy of mine and he could not believe what they did. In a normal situation this would most likely be a nightmare but it worked out well for me and in the end I think I made out better.
Back in December I had my eye on a '09 XB12R that was a beautiful villain black with cherry red rims. After about two weeks of debate over a price and struggling with the indecision if I should really buy it, I went ahead and dropped $500 down on the bike. About a week and a half later I finally had a chance to drive to the dealership to fill out all the paperwork and get the walk around and demo. When I walked into the place the first thing i saw was a brand new 2010 XB12R that was "midnight black" with the dark blue rims. I stood there for a minute and gawked at how much better that one looks compared to the one I purchased. The only thing I thought of is I bet the owner of this bike has to be the happiest person ever. It was at that point I wish I purchased this one instead.
Not too long after I started my gawking spree the salesperson i was working with walked up to me and the first thing he said was "Well what do you think of it?" I replied with "it is a beautiful machine but where is mine?" He looked at the floor for a second and told me there was a problem with getting the 2009 black and red XB12R so they got a 2010 black and blue XB12R instead... WITHOUT EVER ASKING IF IT WAS OK!!!
Little did anyone in that building know that I like the color blue over red any day but I could not believe that they did that swap without even asking me if it was OK. He gave me an excuse why the other bike wasn't available but in all honesty i wasn't paying attention to him talking, i was looking at my bike. My attention snapped back to him when he said that this one will be $200 dollars more.
I turned to him and started to "fake complain" about how i did not put money down on this bike and i was not going to pay anymore that what was negotiated. I held up pretty good while trying not to smile while looking at my bike, giggle like a little boy, or let anyone notice the massive chub I had for the bike. In the end the price got lowered to what we agreed to in the first place and everything worked out well if you ask me. I am so happy for that error they did.
Now I am wondering if anyone else had an experience like this? The part that gets me is I never heard a word about until I went into the dealership. I initially put money on a 2009 bike and got a 2010 bike that was a different color... It worked out well for me but I could see this being an absolute nightmare for someone else. Has anyone had a similar story like this? I am really apprehensive now about going to that dealership for service or parts in the future.
