Shift rod problems. NEED HELP!!

Hello everyone! I hope i posted this in the right place, my apologizes if I didn't. I'm new to the site and love it. My question is I just ordered the woodcraft rear sets, with GP shift. I love them! But my stock shift rod is to short and they even send you a shorter rod. Which I don't understand. I've bn looking everywhere and can't find the length of my stock rod ( w/o ) the ends. I'm at work, my bike is at my work right now so I can't measure mine. Does anyone know how long just the stock shift rod is on a 2004 xb12s? Or what I have to do to fix this problem I've tried moving the knuckle every way I could. The problem is the shifter is to low and the heim joints, that screw into the rod are only a few turns into the rod. Someone please help!! Please

I had a similar issue with my Rizoma rearsets. I bought the shift linkage from a XB12X (Ulysses) which has a longer shift rod. I cut it down to the length I needed for good thread engagement and drilled/threaded it slightly deeper. The shift rod is threaded with LH and RH threads. I cut the RH threaded end so I didnt have to order a LH thread tap.

send a message to fishxb12. He makes stainless shift linkages and will know the stock length and im sure he would be willing to make a custom length if you wanted. The uly rod is 4 7/8" per the thread below. edit: (maybe the guy that posted in that thread used a tape to measure and started at the 1" mark and forgot to subtract it, id trust ericz on the lengths)

Just the threaded aluminum rod lengths not including the heim joints:

Stock XB 12S/R shift rod length: ~2.25"
Stock XB 12X shift rod length: ~3.83"
My XB12S w/ Rizoma length: ~3.125"

Thats correct. I made a couple uly ones at 3 7/8. I make the S/R ones at 2 3/8, just a little longer than stock.
Hey Dirtentwisted, I can make what ever length you need if you can let me a measurement. Only thing is, I dont return to work until July 8th, on vacation starting today. I include everything to mount in up. Let me know if I can help you out. Thanks

I found that its easy enough to make a custom rod out of longer bolts that I won't use for anything else.

Hey Kona, did you mount the shifter to the hole above the clutch cable? That was my problem I didn't know that black cap on the primary above your stock shifter bolt, was another way to bolt your shifter on! Problem solved. Still gonna buy a rod from Fish though!
