I looked through the whole service manual and must have missed it. I bought boots and it's too hard to upshift with them. I need to adjust the shifter so it points up more. I loosened the top and bottom nut but couldn't get the center threaded tube to move at all. Can someone send me a link with the info. [confused]

take the allen bolt all the way out of the shift linkage where it connects to the shifter shaft, and the down arm that is connected to this piece as well (red arrows in the pic), pull the shift arm off the shifter shaft and rotate it down (clockwise) to raise the shifter, or left (counter clock wise) to lower it. just pull it off rotate it a small amount and slide it back, pin the down arm back on and check position, this is for rough setting, turning the thread tube is for fine adjustment after you do this step, and it must be detatched from the shift arm to adjust. atleast in my experience

Brain Fart....

I guess I should have just spent a little more time looking at it. LOL

Thanks man

no problem, I wouldn't have known if i didnt need to do the same to my sportster, and my buell, dealer changed the shifter shaft seal when i took it in for service and set it so high that i could barely get it into second without taking my foot off the peg, woulda complained but was already a mile away before i needed to get into second, damn traffic lol. but glad i could help

Buell Cru, what kind of boots did you buy? My alpinestars were too stiff at first so I wore them in by wedging them under a coffee table. Now I can shift just fine.

While you're at it flip the top piece over and then you have 1 up and 4 down on the shift. Had that done with my old RD350. Kept anyone from wanting to ride it. :D

If you wanted to adjust it with the cross link like you tried to there are rubber o-rings built in to the link so that it will not vibrate loose. It is hard to turn but can be done that is how I adjusted mine.
