Hello, after reassembling the clutch side case to replace the water pump seal the shifter does not have any sprung tension. While riding I can up shift the bike the pretty well because the weight of the shifter lowers the shifter to the mid position but when I downshift the shifter stays down and I have to lift up the shifter to the mid position and push down to another lower gear. The bike holds the gears fine and never pops out of gear.
Here's what I think the problem might be, while I had the clutch side cover off the spring that is on the end of the shifter shaft came off and got wedge enbetween the clutch pack cage and the engine case. I turned the engine over by hand to get the spring out but in doing so the spring got a little tweaked. I reinstalled the spring but I think this spring might be the cause to my problem. What do you guys think might cause this problem?

The spring that came off is part 10

Thanks for the help,

Shoot i just reread the listing it is for the 1125, I know on the xb it had to have the gasket for the extra spacing.

It looks the same as a metric bike, you probably installed it like it looks like it slides on, look at the cross pattern, and uncross it., or let me explain this way, the bottom of the spring goes over the top notch, and the top of the spring goes over the bottom notch. sorry hard to explain, but you gotta uncross the spring.
This my opinion, and I could be wrong, but that is a common mistake people make reinstalling that spring

Ztied, Just to confirm, when the shifter is moved up or down the spring should be trying to uncoil not wind up?

Hey guys, So the problem was just what Ztied suggested. I installed the spring wrong so when the shifter was moved up or down the spring was trying to wind up rather than unwind. The reason this spring came off is because the stifter was moved while the clutch case was off causing the spring to come off of the shifter shaft.

FYI if anyone is in Utah and wants there 1125 engine rotated I am the man at doing this. I done it 4 times in less than a month and can get the engine rotated in a hour flat.
