shifter question

Buell parts guy...

what would be the proper way to remove the foot shifter if the pivot bolt is grinded down. I read over your thread and found your picture. this is exactly what mine looks like now. and id like to fix it myself.

my frame was also nicked by the bar. is there a touch up paint u recommend for the black frames

It almost looks like in the picture, you can might wiggle it off. If not take a grinder and grind off whatever part of the leftover bolt is there on the outside holding the shifter on. Should just slide the shift lever right right off then. To get the part of the bolt that's still left in the primary, just grind two parrallel flats on opposite sides of the bolt and use a crescent wrench OR it may just come off using Vise Grips probabaly.

Touch up paint is fairly cheap at Harley I think?
 
steve thanks for the help. i didnt realize the shifter would just slide right off like that.
 
It will but with how it got ground down like that its got that shaved metal corvering where it would slide off, you have to grind that off before you could slip the shifter off I believe.
 
it was as fun as any crash could be. [smirk]i took a turn bout 30mph, leaning the bike very low. and she wanted nothing with it, so she slipped out and then the 75 foot slide started. i dazzled city onlookers with a fantastic spark show. luckily im perfectly fine! thanks though. i am a strong believer of wearing all my gear always.... my bike just needs some tlc now though.

handlebar took the rash... and the frame puck and axle sliders 100 percent did their job. i got the cheapest axle sliders from darkhorse and they just saved my swing-arm and front fork from a a serious grinding.

anyways, someone wrote a quote on here once and it said

another question ...
as my handlebar snapped back it crush into the plastics (airbox) and left a few in indentations and scraps. whats the best way to smooth this back out, and fill in the little punctures it put on the plastic?

Im confused[confused] Why is your top picture of a completly black primary cover, and then this one is the champange colored one?

BTW did it break your pazzo levers? if so thats real crappy man sorry! Glad your good tho!
 
yep just put on the bar grips and levers. pazzo lever snapped off like a twig and the bar is garbage now. im just concerned about the small nick in the frame...
