Hello,
My 06 Lightning has had shifting problems when it gets hot since I bought it a couple of years ago. When cold it shifts perfectly for about the first 15 to 20 mins.
I just changed the fluid with full synthetic Lucus 20w50 for v twins but it didn't help.
This video on Youtube is what it is doing:

Thanks.

You should check both the Return spring on the shifter shaft and the rubber washer on the shaft. I had trouble With both earlier.

It seems like Your shifter doesnt Return to it original position between each change.

When the Return spring was broken I had always Return the shifter to its position manually by using my foot. especially when shifting down.
Same situatuion when the rubber washer was bad.

Ok I do have the manual so I'll check those out. I've just never taken the primary cover off yet. Guess I'll order a gasket. Thanks

It suck that you just changed your primary oil. But I would just pop the primary cover off and check the springs also most of the time you can reuse your gasket as long as you don't bend it.

try lucas oil additive next time u change fluid it doesnt get as thin as regular oil, i usually run it 50/50 in warm weather. helps harleys too little less agricultural sounding.lol

have u tried a clutch adjustment? look at ur primary chain too, once it gets hot it expands

it is 100 percent petrol and ive ran it since i owned my buell, this one has over 20,000 miles and alot hard riding never touched the clutch. ps my 03 got the same treatment, not trying to persuade you just telling you my expirience.on the bottle it actually lists harley davidson!!

I've put about 200 miles on it since the oil change and I found that the shifter wasn't moving very freely it was getting stuck going up and down so I put a small lock washer on the case side of the shifter bolt and now it pivits only on the bushing so it doesn't rub. It's working great now! I got on the other day and was really amazed at how well and fast it shifted from 2nd to 3rd and to 4th.
This and the new plugs the bike is running great.
I'm going on a 600 mile ride today so hope all goes well.
Thanks for the replies.
