I just got a 2003 xb9r with 2000 orignal miles on it from a family member .
It was dropped on left side broke off shifter pegs ect.
I ordered new parts put them on and now it wont flip back into neutral between shifts ???????????

I've taken it apart like 5 times tried cleaning it all with brake cleaner ect cleaned lubed up the shaft(haha)
still no bueno any ideas ?

That year of bike with that low of mieage tells me it can't be worn out. More than likely when it fell something was bent. If the Primary oil is original, without a doubt it needs changing but it is probably not the problem. I am not a mechanic so I really can't offer any more advice other than seek and find a manual. You won't be sorry. Keep in mind once you get it to shift into neutral these XB/HD motors are very clunky shifting beasts. Not sure about brake cleaner on the clutch parts though. Be careful about stuff like that. Maybe after everyone is awake you'll have more answers. Good luck

Ok, I'm not a mechanic but let me throw out a couple ideas.

First off, Can you shift it into neutral when the bike isn't running? If so, then look at your clutch adjustment it may be dragging and not allowing it to catch neutral while there is still pressure on it..

Secondly, does it shift fine throughout the gears or do you notice any problems there. If it doesn't I'd say look at your shifting mechanism that actuates the drum, or it could be the drum itself or possibly a bent shifting fork. That being said I don't see how just dropping the bike would have caused any damage to the drum or the forks..

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can speak up but that should start you in the right direction.

I made a litle progress today its a little better but still not where it should be . and as far as brake parts cleaner it wont harm anything i use it on our nitro bike clutch's and it helped get all the old gunk out . the original oil was in it and gunky as hell had water in it and smelled almost like soap/foaming
will update after tomorrows trial process of pullin it all apart again

I had the same problem after the bike being dropped but had a problem through all the gears.Long story short it ended up being the shifter arm was slightly tweaked.

Not that difficult I'd download the manual if you haven't already. the clutch basket and primary chain have to come off but if you have all the tools already then it goes alot quicker.

special tools: don't forget to either buy or make the jam plate that locks the clutch and the engine crank in order to get the clutch off. there are pictures of that tool on here somewhere

Yup you will need the locking bar as shown above. thats it far as specialty tools. the main shaft on the clutch is either a 28 or 32mm i forget which. remember it has left hand threads. you will need snap ring pliers to get to it.
