Shock Damaged?

I bought a 100-mile used shock from a MC Mechanic school, and I found something on it that I didn't know existed. Opposite of the rebound adjuster there is a staked cap. On my shock it looks like someone tried to unscrew it, so it is all buggered. Should I be concerned about it? Here's a pic. Are there other things I should look for that will let me know if it has been disassembled?

Isn't that one of the adjustment screws, rebound or compression, if it is, it has problably been stripped out and staked back in
Edit: my reading comprehension skills need work, I see now opposite side of adjuster
 
Yeah, giving it some close looks compared to the one I took out it doesn't look like any damage was done other than cosmetic.
