Shorten turn to WOT?

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

look at the diy above...it works but you need to do minor grinding inside the throttle assembly so that it has room to spin freely

i read the diy thread, but i still dont get how to do it. someone please explain, show me some more pictures of a how to??????

I got the throttle in the mail this past weekend and installed on the Buell. It worked perfectly and I didnt need to do any grinding at all. All i had to do was pop the end cap of the tube off so that I could insert my bar end mirror. It was an easy install and the results are noticeable. It is much easier to accelerate and the low speed clutch control was still there. I was very pleased for the $11 and 35 minutes it took me to complete this modification.

I would be happy to answer any questions

pictures and how to? i have no idea what the f is going on, i look at all the thread on the how to but it does not show me to to remove and install and what not.

I am an hour and a half from my bike at the moment so I cannot get pictures but I will give you a step by step the best I can.

#1 Take off bar end mirror/bar end weight or any other thing holding your throttle tube on the bar.

#2 Unbolt the housing that holds the throttle tube in place. 2 bolts on the back on the on/off and starter control. Top one is short Bottom one is longer.

#3 Unhook the throttle cables and slide the throttle tube off of the bars. (The grip will still be on the old throttle tube at this point.

#4 Use an air compressor to shoot air between the grip and the old throttle tube and slide the grip off.

#5 Use the same trick to put the old grip on the new throttle tube.

#6 Put it back on the bars and insert into the housing.

#7 Connect the throttle cables and put the 2 bolts back into the housing that clamps it around the new throttle tube.

#8 Adjust the grip so that it is in the correct spot and is not rubbing on the bar, no sticking throttle, etc.

#9 Cut the end of the throttle tube off so you can fit your bar end mirror (if you have one, if not skip this step)

#10 Replace the mirror or bar end and ride.

That is as simple as I can make it. It is such an easy process I don't know how much I can say that.

So no modifications to the housing then? Direct drop in? That's awesome!! What's the PN for the new tube? More importantly, does it do what's expected?

Idk why the DIY above says that all that disassembly and grinding to the housing was necessary. I did not grind any of the housing nor did I mark the stop and all that jazz. It really is unnecessary. I directly dropped it in and reattached the cable and had no issues with sticking, slow return to idle, etc.

If you type this in on ebay you will see the exact same throttle tube that I bought. It is a motion pro and I spent about $11 after shipping.

Yamaha YFZ R6 2003-2008 Throttle Sleeve Tube Motion Pro

I felt a noticeable difference because you don't have to crank your wrist so hard to squeeze the power out of the bike. It makes the throttle much more manageable especially when cornering because you retain a better grip on the bar when accelerating out. i didn't mark a before and after and it turned out just fine. I don't know what the point of that is. If someone knows could you please inform me.

to illustrate how much of a difference there is for those of use thinking about doing this mod, its not a permanent mark. all you say is noticeable. what is noticeable. is it .25" difference or 1"

Noticeable is hard to measure because even though you can measure the length of the turn that is gained you can not equate that with a measure of power that you will get the motor to put out. The mark is useless unless you can measure the full turn of the throttle and divide by the output given by the bike.

Just ordered it! Thanks man!

Hope it goes well for ya. If you have any questions let me know.

I got the Motionpro part and made a discovery. It is for a 2006 R6S (not R6) which makes a difference. The diameter of the "barrel" where the cables ride is identical to our Buells as is the cable termination so the end result would be no difference.

I have to measure that diameter when I get home tonight but the 2006 R6 is 40.5mm from what I've read.

If you do this, order the Yamaha PN or do the PVC pipe/epoxy DIY that was linked earlier. I'll let you know what I decide to do.

Good luck!

PN is 01-0094. DO NOT USE IT!

I did the mod using the yamaha tube last week on the 1125R. Took about a half hour. I have a track day at Chuckwalla on the 11th, will let you know my thoughts on the mod afterwards.

Nice! Looking forward to your comments!

Just some pics, on a side note I compared my XB and 1125 tubes and they are the same so this should work for all XB's and 1125's.

Nice thanks for the pics, it's like a 15-20% shortening of the turn, well worth it IMO...
