I just noticed that my front exhaust flange is not flush with the cylinder, is this normal? I am not sure why I never noticed before but I was looking at some pictures of when I first bought my bike and it was like this then as well with only 400 miles on it. I'm a little concerned since it seems that a lot of people have had problems with these things coming loose or cracking.

Looking at the service manual, it appears to say that it should be flush but I did find a couple pictures floating around the web that look the same as mine. Does anyone have any close-up pics of this? Thanks!!

looks normal. the flange has to hold the pipe in the head. if it was contacting the head it wouldn't be able to compress the gasket.

Thanks guys, makes sense now Kona. This is the second error I have noticed now in the service manual (along with the drain plug torque values).

It is flush. You're seeing the flange. There's a retaining ring (circlip) inside the ring clamp that forces the header against the exhaust port.

There's no error.
