no body is arguing about it. Hes just going to find out that every bike has its own needs and habits. Any sport bike that is light weight and putting out big numbers is going to need more attention than a heavily built, cruiser with a mellowed out motor in it. Sport bikes were built to handle well and go fast.. cruisers are built to go for a long time without trouble.. you really cant have BOTH. My buddy rides an R1 and hes constantly replacing stuff before it goes bad. That's just the name of the game.. "Japanese" doesn't really mean anything when it comes to sport bikes , they have needs too. I think a lot of these ideas actually come from publications like "cycle world" and "sport rider"... but the "Big Four" pays those guys to write up good reviews and they ride them for a few days and give them back. What would THEY know about a motorcycles reliability? We are at a point in motorcycle history where all the motorcycles out there are real good, not a single one of the major companies are making "bad bikes"... especially when you compare whats being made today with what was being made in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

i glad your sportsters have lasted. my 2012 v-rod muscel with 2200 miles on it just threw the pully and rear wheel bearings. my 04 firebolt with 13,000 miles it still running like a champ and the only time that the bolt left me stranded it was because the battery cable came loose. just remember this no matter the product, some will fall thought the cracks and be junk right from the get go. while others will last a lifetime. its just the luck of the draw.

just finished a 1600 mile ride in OR and NO Cali on the sporty. 35K on her and narry a hick-up. (knocking on wood) I now it's not a Buell but damn is she fun to ride! think I may look for another HD. just can't stomach the Japanese bikes. thanks for all the replies!
