so heres the deal...

the bike is an 04 xb12. its got what I believe to be a factory race ecm (not ebr) installed.

after much aggravation over the course of about 6 months, I have come to the conclusion that the mapping in the bike wasn't stock when I bought it. I believe someone has modified it and now I have no base map to start with,

when I got the bike the cold start enrichment was fooled with a little, and a few other correction tables. I got the bike to run ok, but still not as it should.

I might also add, that im running the latest version of ecmspy.

I would rather not try to buy a used ecm, just because the one I have works, and theres no telling if the one I buy will have factory maps in it.

what should I do?

If it's a race ecm then the ecm will say for race use only on it. The problem with them are, race ecms aren't tunable, you can't really mess with the maps or you risk frying the ecm, it has to do with its programming. An oem ecm is tunable, and you can adjust anything in it really to your own liking. If you are trying to tune it, an oem ecm is actually a much better option.

It is in fact a factory race ecm. I had no idea about tuning issues with the race ecm, I have been tuning this one for months now

you can't really mess with the maps

...yes you can.
I've tuned my factory race ECM on several different occasions without frying it. Don't try to burn the whole eeprom, only the maps.

I believe you are thinking of the EBR ECM, being the one you don't want to screw with.

I'm not exactly sure where to find the ecm's firmware version... 'BUEGB' maybe? I know that my ecmspy version is 2.0.31.2. I have a copy of the factory race map, but its in a a.txt file. I'm not exactly sure how to convert all that info into something I can use. thank you all for trying to help, I have been struggling with this one for so long..

I figured it out!!!! Aparently the new version of ecmspy doesent speak the same code as the old version. Thanks to wolfo i got it all to work properly.

Now, the bike doesent seem to want to runn when cold with the factory corrections, i saved the race map to my bike then opened up with newer ecmspy to get access to all the other corrections, i basically turned startup enrichment off, and increased the 20°c to about 150% it runs okay for now, i th ink this was my issue before. As soon as the 20 seconds of startup enrichment was gone, it would go lean and start loping really bad...
