I decided to open up my air box as much as i could with my gerber. Haven't rode her around yet but I hope it helps out with the fuel issue I'm having. I would of cut away more but like is aid all i was using was a gerber. i would of opened up the right side too but it was time for dinner so i wrapped it up.

I hope you dont have an acrylic airbox cover cause that is some ghetto cuts...

sure do [up] lol that thing was kind of a bitch with a gerber and some klines. I'm going to my buddies tomorrow to use his dremmel and clean it up as well as open up the right side. figured i'd knock out a majority of it, function over form anyway [cool]

I've always wondered how much does opening the inner air box help with air flow on the models that have the snorkel through the frame?

me too, esspecially since i've been getting **** mpg's, and when i changed my plugs a while back they were pretty fouled up so i was thinking i have too much fuel not enough air? i did notice and found it silly that there is the metal mesh part to let air in, but there was no where for the air to pass directly into the filter. was going to do the open air box DIY but i think I'll be just fine skeletoning out the airbox so i can keep the retainer clips functioning. i tell you what it was instantly louder just from starting it and pulling it from the back to front of my house. haven't heard it on the road yet but i'm sure it'll be different than i'm used to.

yea, that was a noob mistake, used a screw driver to jam it back into place. This is all new for me, i'm by no means skilled in mechanics or motorcycles. Just learning what I can and getting my hands on as much as possible.

lol just make sure you have all the right tools, I probably messed with that for a lil over an hour, if i had a dremmel on me when i started i'd say it would of been done in less than 30.

From that point, I would just go with the air filter cover and get rid of everything else. Just the top on the filter. Would look much better, and there is your "function".

The ol' Drill with hole bit and dremel worked good for me.. I no longer need this airbox cover so if anyone is interested make me an offer :)

Not quite sure what Im going to do. The first two pictures are of a scoop using the bottom picture as a mold. Made the mold, cut it in half, and stretched it. I made the mold (the bottom 2 pics) out of fiberglass, resin, and a Glade airfreshner that I cut in half. I really want to have someone send my outer cover out here to me so that I can have all the body work done by the time I get home from this deployment!!

You just have to practice and read a lot. I dont have ANY of the stuff that I really want to use to make parts, hell, I used an air-freshner as a mold!!! You just have to think outside of the box...no pun intended! :D

Well, i tps reset and took Dorothy out for a 30 minute ride with the new mod and WOW what a different. no more gun shot back fires, feels snappier on acceleration, still have that slight lag in the low low rpms but seems like everyone has it. all in all i'm very very satisfied. Oh it's a lot louder too, not sure if it is to other but I sure hear more.
