im interested in trading a 00 x1 buell 8k miles for my 06 triumph st 1050 14k miles,

i like the x1 but keep reading about reliability issues and breaking a lot but everyone seems to not mention what breaks a lot and what requires a lot of work , i just read on this same forum that someones engine went with only 7800 miles , is that common , i seem to find a lot of issues with broken oil pumps and subsequently toasted engines.

so i need the real story on this bikes reliability and life expectancy as i would assume my triumph would last for a long time and would hope that if i trade the buell does too.

my buddy has a 99 x1, when its running its a great bike!......however he's run into mechanical and electrical problems within the last year....

the good part is they are as basic as it comes!!!! SUUUUPER easy to work on.

and the TQ of the x1 is so much fun after you tune the bike!!!

My muffler cracked, replaced with a Vance&Hines, The stock rear shock is shot, no rebound.

Look for cracks at the mounts, a shot rear shock, and ensure the oil has been changed regularly. There are a lot more examples of high-mileage X1's/tubers. Read on here--you'll note issues with ALL bikes as people without issues hardly post about how great their bikes run.

Trumpet ST or X1?? X1 in a New York minute!!!

yes, his exhaust has cracked on his, then i think the electrical issue are just old wires, and connections. We just replaced his Rear isolators on his last month

You would need a different front bracket. Beware of the 16.5" shocks they were recalled. Also had a bandaide fix

I have two X-1's, 1999 & 2001. I have had NO major mechanical problems. The stuff that goes south is typical stuff that goes wrong with any bike getting close to 12 -13 yrs old. Cracked and broken tail light lenses, relay switches failing, headlight bulbs burning out, voltage regulator failure, leaking gaskets, bad fork seal, batteries, etc.... I have over 70 K miles between the two of them. I only had exhaust mounting problems when I went to after market kits. Vance and Hines did not last long at all before the brackets failed. The Buell race muffler has been the absolute best conversion I made. They engineered that for the vibration. It has been on for about 7 yrs now. The 2001 is still running the stock muffler. My 1999 has been essentially made into a cafe racer. It has all my performance goodies. Except for an M6 chain tensioner and a Mueller Power Clutch, the 2001 is stock. Except for the primary cover, I have never been into either engine case.

Friend of mine has a Millenium. CHang ethe oil regularly and an electric fan for the rear cylinder is not a bad idea. Not sure if there are scoops available to fix this, but his rear cylinder overheated and wore out pretty bad. Mechanic said insufficient cooling. Just what I remember, don't kill the messenger :)
