I searched around a bit and hadn't found anything on this so...
Like several on here, I've been through a few front fairing stays... about 5 I think...
I've amassed a few broken ones laying around the shop. So, for the current project bike I decided to try to fix one.
here's what I had to work with. This stay had good mounts.
but it had a broken "ear" here
and cracks in the webbing underneath here
they are a bit hard to see in that pic, but they are there.
this stay had all good ears and webbing, but a broken mount
so... time to cut and weld
out with the bad mount
off with the good mount
some fitting... some welding...
down the side
not sure the alloy of mag, used N91 rod... probably not it as we had some bug holes, but, great penetration and seems to be a solid weld...
smoothed the welds, alodined it with alodine 5700, primered, filled, and painted...
and.....
