Spark Plugs

Thanks for the info in this post - been wanting to upgrade my plugs and this will save me from going to the dealership.

Race map did the trick. Bike runs great now. But I eventually want my exhaust converted to a drummer or hawk.

too hot. 7s could damage pistons eventually. that ngk website is wrong. Run the 8 with race map. I also got my exhaust done hawk and iridium plugs with race map.

98-09 Spark Plugs for Tube frame and XB series. Does NOT fit 1125R. 5889 is NGK equivalent of the 10R12 Buell heat range plug, 5887 for long life NGK Iridium electrodes. These are the right heat range 9 plugs to be used on Thunderstorm and XB head engines. Heat range 8 is recommended for 95-97 engines

I have been tracking this thread,as I have put the DCPR8EIX in my 03 XB9R. I checked the NGK website and talked to a tech, and he says this is the plug to run. Will one heat rating difference really make that much of a difference? Will it damage my bike in any way at all? Thanks!

Im running a race ecm, open air box with k&n filter and jardine exaust. Dont think the bike is running lean at the moment. Again dont think the ngk website is right with the 7 heat range plug. Any thoughts would be welcomed

the 7 and 8 can cause engine damage under certain conditions such as a lean running engine wich will run hotter add that to riding in very hot temps and you could run into problems.the dcpr9eix is a safer plug to run.you could put the 7,8,9 in your engine and most will not notice any difference at all between them except for the placebo moders.so you might as well run the 9.if you want to do a plug mod that really makes a difference index what ever plug you are running.i run the 8 in my bike because its a little fat.

I live in FL, so it is pretty warm and I usually ride everyday. How do you tell if a bike is running lean?

I changed the original plugs in my bike to ngk dpr8ex and now at idle it pops then a bad decel pop and it coughs when rolling into the throtle out of a turn should i go to the dpr9eix plugs?

I have never changed the plugs on myself. Do the DCPR9EIX come gapped correctly?

I just put the dcpr9eix ngks in mine after having the 8s in and what a difference it runs great now .cant beleive ngk has the wrong plug listed though. The dcpr8e made a poping sound at idle had a bog at mid range and the decel pop was awfull. Glad i found this post with hints on how to change made it easy .thanks for advice

I went with E3 plugs. I have them in everything i own. they are awesome. i have used ngk's also and never had a problem with them not bashing them AT ALL.

With E3's my bike starts very quickly and runs great. it had harley (champions)plugs in it when i got it and these made a huge difference! Also i have over 4k on them this season.

E3 Part Number: E3.36

Is it going to vary on which plug you should use based on minor performance add ons (k&n, exhuast etc)?
