Anyone out there ride the roads for excersise too? I need a recommendation or a nice road bike that's not too pricey but going to do everything I want. Just needs to be a little nicer then my old Walmart ten speed! I've looked at Specialized and Treks. Around the 400-700 dollar range.....any input??

Cand comment on road bikes but i currently own a specialized mt bike. i have the camber comp with upgraded forks wheels and drivetrain. i can not say enough good about it. im rough on my bikes i ride here on kodiak on the mountains and there are some pretty gnarly trails with drops and jumps and the bike takes it all in stride. i have done a few 20+ mile rides on it on the road and it wasnt to bad. I cant comment personaly on trek but i have a budy with one and he complains about it all the time he hates it bearings are always being replaced and lots of issues with cracking frames. good luck to you and hope you enjoy biking its a great way to stay in shape

I did some road biking a few years back.I had a Cannondale R300.It was a older version and after a few upgrades it was a great bike.A buddy bought a Specialized road bike and loved it.I liked my Cannondale over his even though it was 8 years older than his.It might have just been his height was different than mine but still. If you want a choice of the two I would recommend the Specialized over the Trek.

Check this out! Audi introducing a peddle bike prototype capable of wheelie assist and electric motor with speeds up to 50mph!

I have a Mongoose Mt Bike from Wal Mart it was probably the best mountain bike made last year.

haha ^^. thanks guys, yeah ive looked into mountain bikes instead i cant decide which type to get into. might look to see if there is a crossover type or mountain/road type. i really perfer Specialized but Trek has had some cool bikes to look at. info appreciated [up]

I personally like Trek but both of the companies are top notch. Just get which one feels better to you is what it comes down too.

Most of the good bike companies have roughly similar bikes at pretty similar price points. Most features are going to be comparable at each price point. Some trickle down technology might make one bike a better choice than another, usually in regards to the frame, especially at higher price ranges.
In the end though, find the best balance of fit, features and function as close as possible to the price range you're shopping in. My preference in general is Specialized but Trek does have some hot bikes too.

I have a Trek Alpha 1.2 for the road, cheaper bike, but since I bought it 2.5yrs ago I have easily become partial to Specialized. Never had a problem with the Trek, but as for Specialized there is more choices to narrow down a bike specific to what you want it for.

If I were to buy another road bike it would be the Specialized Tarmac Apex Mid-Compact

I would go with specialized, i too am really fond of my specialized and it has never let me down.

I still really like norco's, I ride downhill, but they make awesome bikes. But if you really want one of the ones you mentioned I would go with a specialized.

Very light, simple and looks really good. Retails ~900+ but got mine for $700.

I think the best advice I can give is go where you feel you get the best service. All manufacturers have relatively similar offerings at all price points.

I can guarantee you will be back to the shop for tune-ups parts, advice etc. The best bike shops will take their time to work with you whether you buy a $400 bike or a $4000 bike.

Just my .02

BTW, I own three Specialized road bikes,(Venge, Tarmac, Transition) a Giant Anthem MTB and a Fuji Track Elite. I was racing bikes before I took up motorcycles and I'm starting to accumulate plenty of Buell stuff now.

It is all about the components. A lot of the new bikes have just rubbish for components because they want you to replace after a year. I would buy used if possible. The deal will be much better than from a shop. I picked up my Tri bike 5 years ago for half what they were selling for new. Now I have about 8 road bikes and my favorite is still my giant tcr. But components....components.... Components. That's the message.

I ride a Specialized Carve 29er at the local trails near the house.

Love the 29er coming up from a trek 26 wheeler.

I can't recommend the work out enough that a single track will give you.
