does anyone use the stainless oil filter from ASB or one from anyone else? also what do you think about them?

i am having trouble finding oil filters on the island so i was thinking about changing over to a stainless and i would not have to worry about looking for another.

Not sure about those. I havent used one, but the no replacement deal seems worth looking into. Somebody will chime in sooner or later.

That is a great Choice make sure to get an extra couple of gaskets. Yes it seems expensive but so easy to maintain. I use one on my XB12R race bike and I've thought about doing the same for my 08 XB12R as well. Use Amsoil 20/50 in the Engine and you will like the Stainless oil Canister, make sure to keep an orignal New oil filter just for the OPPs and Emergencys that come along now and then . Good Luck!*Jimi[up]

Looks nice... but for that money I can change my filter every 6 month for the next 16 years;)

Buy a case of filters.. Bet you'd get a nice price break and that will help cover shipping costs.

Not running one but have looked at them. Look cool. You would need some kind of ultrasonic parts cleaner to really clean it correctly.

Don't you have a CR? ^^ This is for an XB.

^ehhh, too much work just to clean it. also, it is too expensive, i rather spent $8 on the wix filter every 6 months. that is more than 15 filters i can buy, so that is about 7 years of oil change.

A SS cap to fit over the throw away oil filter would be a little smarter. Just slide it on and slide it off before removing filter. It'd have to be a solid fit though....

I run a Scotts stainless life time filter on my 1998 S3 i've had it a few years now seems to work good. It actually pretty easy to clean you take it off pull the Stainless filter out and rinse it off with some kerosene blow it out with alittle air takes like 5 minutes. The one i have has a little magnet in it so you can see if there any metal running thru the motor. I paid 180 for mine.

:)

yes I own a CR i didnt post that link but its the same idea and ASB does have it for the CR. at $7 a filter its a little more then 10 oil changes and the stainless one is 80. now even if i get bulk i still have to pay shipping and shipping to PR only goes up with more weight. with the one time purchase less shipping because less weight i get a life time filter and dont have to pay for shipping when i move back to the states. I have a parts cleaner at work and these are easy to clean from what i read.

^okay, lets say its $80 for the stainless filter, and is about $10 for a regular filter(although its only $8). 2 filters for every 1 year, that will sill be about 4 years before u were break even. that is just too long of a time to break even with an oil filter on a motorcycle.

If I already had what I needed to clean it out, I could see how it'd be cool to have one. Less waste and you never have to run into the situation of not having a new filter around. The price still seems terrible though for what it is.

My lazy butt would try to go too long without cleaning it. I'll stick with my $8 throw away, but recycle it to rid myself of the guilt :)

Nothing new..!

Been around in the automotive field for a very long time. I still have one...on the shelf.
BUT...just as most fads do, they came and for the most part...have left.

The cleaning part is most of the reason.

While you may think it's clean...look closer. The ultrasonic comment is a good one.
They are fairly good at catching stuff, the filter can plug quickly.
And for that reason, they are good for a fresh engine. You can see EXACTLY what's floating around in your oil.

From there...it's back to paper.
