starter making a loud clacking sound even at shutdown

Has anyone experiance this. Lately the starter making a loud clacking sound when i start up some times it does want to start. It makes the same sound when i kill the motor. Charging at 14.6 and batteries good 12.6. Have took the starter off yet cause i cant find a replacement

If it the clutch does anyone knows the part number or were i could fine one

You can find one at your friendly HD dealer. I don't recall the part numbers but I can get them later if you need them. The sprag clutch is bolted to the back of the rotor in a housing which you should also change while doing it. This is all pretty clear in the parts manual. If you can afford it, upgrade your rotor while in there to the drilled EBR unit.

Note- you can install the sprag clutch backwards so before disassembling it, make note which direction it grabs, and which direction it spins freely.
