Well depands how far do you ride?
can you ride now?
the stator and rotor will take about 3 hours if your skilled,
if a stator goes the bike doesn't just die without warning.
you can make it atleast 30+ miles on the battery further if you unplg the lights.
I bet alot of guys would like that now that Ebr has the kit.
Tip for you go get a couple long metric bolts and cut the heads off.
Use them for alingment and to hold the gasket in place. Cause when you get within a inch the magnetic feild sucks it right out of your hand.
I cant ride now...not till April at the earliest. sometimes I going to anchorage....about six hours....44 miles to work....then back.... I think i could find the fuse for the lights. I got skills...never really dealt with a magnetic field of this strength though...
RT the question still stands then.
if you ride 6 hours away from home you need to change it.. likely can sell your 09 stator to somone for a rewind.if you need tips pm me i can give you my cell.
I had mine apart twice.
The bolts help alot and will cost you less than a dollar.
I never had my rotor off just checked the torque by locking it with a brass punch between the gears.

Question....
Isn't the '08 rotor different than the '09 and would need to be replaced when/if the stator was replaced (switching to an '08 charging system in an '09 bike)?
