If there hasn't been enough oil change post made I'll add another. Decided to change my oil at the 1000 mark. Read through a number of diffrent post checked my tools and collected supplies to prepare for the big day ......... well I had a T25 bit and I knew I needed a T27 size but you know it was pretty close so I decided to go with it.

Everything went fine until I got to the last bolt on the plastic cover the harley dealership had done the maintenance last and sort of set me up for failure the end was already partially damaged but if I was real careful I could pull it off I wasn't careful enough it slipped and that was it for the bolt. I went to the local parts store which I should have done in the first place and bought a T27 size but it was no use the end was done for.

So I drilled that bitch out which was a bitch the bolt is pretty hard so my bit is too dull to do much else.

and then there it is. Now I need to find a new bolt someplace I can't imagine them being cheap at the dealership and I'm sure if they are common enough to pick up at a store.

I was kinda wondering the same thing...I could use some new hardware specifically the fairing bolts with the shoulder (I have one or two stripped) Anyplace I can get this aside from driving 5 hours to the dealership (in another state [down])

You can go to your local auto parts store and get a 1/4 20 x 3/4 inch long slot screw. I would recommend paying the little extra and get stainless.

Cycle gear has bolt packs at a reasonable price, they are always good to keep around they have saved my butt several times!

i have been unable to find those shoulder bolts at any hardware store. i bought a few from the dealer. you could get a regular 1/4-20 and look for a spacer to put on it so its kind of like a shoulder bolt.

Yeah probably not any shoulder bolts unless you get some 1 1/2 inches long and cut off some of the threads, but the shoulders may be too long.

If it is a shoulder bolt you need you are missing just don't torque the bolt down too hard and use loctite.

American Sport Bike has them, but still a heafty price. Makes me glad I saved all mine from my last bike and have a dozen or so extra.

I would say find an alterative, since it is in the chin fairing no one will even see it any who.

Or if you feel the need.......

ASB Bolts $2.75 Ouch!!!

Yeah and minimum shipping is $12.50, so in all you would have to buy 8 bolts to get one and it would run you about $40, not to bad if you are made of money[smirk]

They are cheap at the dealer. I put on the right side air scoop last fall and ordered the bolts also because I couldn't be bothered to run around looking for them. I think they were a buck or two. Big deal, think of the time you're wasting looking around to save a few pennies. Wayne

Just them from the dealer! You will get a quality bolt and not have to spend the gas and money searching for bolts that are kinda the same.

I bought all new bolts for mine chin fairing awhile back from the dealer, came out to like $15 or something like that

Actually they are chromed so its easier to find them when they Vibrate OFF. Ha Ha

Thanks for everyones help I went to ace hardwear and picked up an identical bolt with the exception of a hex head sure its not the same but at $.46 and a couple blocks from my house I can live with it.

I've always wondered why Buell went with a T27? Every one including me has a T20 T25 and T15 in a tool kit somewhere. Oh and even if you try to buy a single T27 from Home Depot, they don't have one. I had to buy a six piece set that of course duplicated all the ones I already have just to get the T27. Yes I have the T27 in my tool kit but I wanted one for my ratchet to go along with the 10mm socket I seem to always use to tighten my battery cable.
