Hey guys, im trying to remove the orange from my wheels for a bare metal look. Seems like this paint is some real good stuff. I've stripped jap wheels plenty of times without problems. I normally use aircraft stripper and the paint just wipes off..

These buell wheels are giving me trouble. I've tried aircraft stripper, and while it does soften the paint up, I can't seem to get much of it off (even with a pressure washer! [confused]) I would just take some sandpaper to them but the metal I have revealed is beautiful and shiny, and I would hate to scratch it up [mad]

I'm going to rub a liberal amount of brake fluid on the wheels and let them sit overnight. Hopefully that helps, although my hopes aren't too high. Has anyone successfully removed paint from these rims before?

hmmm, I'm actually trying to do the exact same thing.. I'm listening as well. I would think sand blasting would be the next step

Glad to see i'm not the only one suffering!

I'm sure sand blasting would do the trick.. just grabbing for ideas before I go and spend more $$ on this project. [sad]

I am getting closer though. It comes off easier if I sand the paint (trying to avoid the pretty aluminum :p) after every aircraft stripper/pressure wash cycle. The spokes are going to be the hardest part, but with patience I think I will get them.. eventually.. I'll post some pics when/if I get them bare!!

Just pay to have them sandblasted. The set of rims I bought from staman I had powdercoated blue and I think I paid $50 each

were the heck have you guys been...was trading my stardust silver wheels, wanted black but would have settled for anything at the time. in the end, had my wheels powder coated 90% gloss black, both wheels for 90 bucks, included blasting.

The wheels on the japanese bikes you did were probably normal paint, likely even single stage and might not have been urethane so they would strip easy. I'm fairly certain buell wheels are powder coated from the factory. Paint stripper just doesnt cut the mustard. Have them glass media or another fine media blasted and they wont take much to polish back up.
