Unplug it, but you won't be happy when your bike overheats...

It's there for a reason, leave it alone.

A right side scoop will help, as will synthetic oil, but neither is going to do anything when you are stuck at a red light.

I always thought it was kinda cool myself - told the guys at work it was the afterburner spooling down. :p

get the ecu reflashed. buell has new downloads that will shut that fan up. it only running when the bike is runnning

I tell everyone that I'm drying laundry. Then they look and ask where the laundry is, and I tell them my clothes pins must not have been rated for the speed I was travelling!

I have a new (010) Buell XB12Ss. The fan motor is wierd. Mine appears to run only when the bike is moving. When I come to a stop (or near stop) it shuts off. It starts up again about 3 to 5 seconds when under way. It has come on maybe once or twice when stopped in traffic on hot days. It has never run when the motor is turned off. My son has an 06 model and his seems to do just the opposite. Does anyone know whether they changed the fan program operating mode on the later model Buells? I wonder if it is wired backwards or something.

nope, thats the newest program in the ecm... my '09 ran the way your '06 does, until I got the latest download... fan runs when riding and more MPG too

there is a way to cheat the fan. when you shut off the bike and the fan comes on toggle the kill switch back to on so the fan shuts off then turn the key off. Sometimes you gotta repeat the steps until it stays off.

re the fan, errr yes mine xb12sx 2010, does the same... I was so worried I even returned it to shop, but was informed that this was the newest feature, to reduce the noise from bikes fans when its stopped at lights etc, think they said owners were complaining of the noise while fan ran when stopped...
Does seem strange, I would like to know if the fan will run at turn off, if you get the thing hot enough..
but at in UK its only been cold over last few weeks... Cant say if it ever will...

The right side scoop is a huge improvement,on my 06 sometimes i shut it off with no fan :).Even my HD friend, I ride with, noticed the fan does'nt run much any more (I also think he jealous, because the fan attracts more attention to my lightning)I do think the amsoil helps also!

I have a 12Scg 09 and my fan runs only runs for a minute or so when I turn it off. When I'm with other people they all look at it strange.
One time when I was in dead stop traffic in hot weather the fan went on.

Some may yhtink it is annoying and want the fan quiet when stopped, but that is when it is needed the most. WHen you are moving down the road, the air is already moving across the engine. When you come to a stop there is no air moving, hence the need for a fan. I had always been on Harleys with out a fan and thought that this was a cool feature when I got my Buell. I mean for real. When your sitting in traffic and not moving with the engine running, this is the most important time to have a fan.

I was just searching for fan info because I just came home from a short a ride and the fan didn't come on when I turned it off. Thought it was weird but I did just switch to Lucas full synthetic v twin oil so maybe that's why it didn't come on. Guess its ok since others mentioned that.
