I'm trying to remove the swing arm so I can drop the engine for servicing a transmission issue I have but can't get the pivot bolt out. Is there a special trick or tool that is needed?

You need to take all the pressure off the swing arm bolt, which requires the tire to be off the ground and you to lift just slightly on the rear tire so there is no pressure fron the swing arm hanging their.

It also helps to just continue to ratchet out the bolt as it will help pull the bolt out of the swing arm.

Thanks for the input! I was hoping someone would reply. I've taken the weight off the swing arm with a small tire jack and have gotten the pivot bolt almost entirely out but it just seems to spin with the bearings at the very end. Does it just take a really long time for the bolt to come out or am I just having other issues? Thanks again for the input!@!!

If I remember right there are about an inch worth of threads...

Best suggestion is to take a sharpie and draw a ring around the bolt that's hanging out and try turning it out more. It should be pretty easy to determine if it is still coming out. If it's not just grab a hold of it with a pair of channel locks and try to wiggle it out.

I'm not 100% sure, but it may help to take the belt off too. That may be putting too much pressure on the bolt.

Use a philips screw driver and tap it the rest of the way out. What I usually end up doing if it is catching.

Just an update,

I used a ratchet strap to hoist the tail section of the bike up slightly and then brought the back tire just off the ground relieving pressure off the pivot bolt. The belt was removed and everything was lined up perfectly. After setting everything up I continuously ratcheted the bolt until I was able to pull it right out. Honestly, I’m not sure in retrospect why I was having so much difficulty but I want to thank everyone for posting and the suggestions. Now that the engine is dropped I have a lot of cleaning to do from the prior owner. I’ll put together a picture post of the build as I repair the transmission and rebuild the bike. I was thinking about powdercoating the frame and swingarm red and painting the fairings and fenders black….thoughts? Thanks again.
