I have a 09 xb9sx. I am looking to swap for a longer swing arm. From what I understand the Ss swing arm is longest. To complete the swap I would need a swing arm, brake line, belt, and maybe a rear shock? Does anyone have a definitive list of parts to make this swap. I don't want to change my tail section. I will however clearance the trunk if I have to for the shock if for some reason I end up with clearance issues. I'm noticing some people have made swing arm changes and have a little spacer made for between the swing arm and shock. Is that there to retain the shock the bike came with?

If I remember right extremelow did this modification to his bike. I may be wrong. Look up some of his threads through the search function. sub search with his name only.

You pretty well have the the parts list. The mods you've seen are to retain the shorter series shocks. The SS swingarm has the shock bung moved more rearward than the R/S swingarm. This is to fit the larger SS shock to a larger frame. Used as is on your bike the SS swingarm will cause SX the shock to hit the battery tray.

The SS shock is longer. So it will jack the rear of your bike higher. Or, to use that shock at regular ride height will require more modification than using the SX shock.

I've installed the SS swingarm with an R/S shock and the SCG shock. To do it, I moved the shock bung forward on the swingarm and had it rewelded to give the needed clearance. Other have made brackets for the adjustment.

So I can just trim under the battery tray and all will be well?

I just looked at that and Noticed there isnt any room to trim under there without moving shit around. Ive got a tail lift in there right now but Im guessing that isnt enough space?

I've never run a tail lift. So I can't accurately answer your question. Maybe someone that's done the swap and running a lift will chime in.

You either have to make a shock extension or modify the swingarm with a new shock mount. There is no combination of OEM parts that will give you proper ride height and suspension travel using a long swingarm on a standard frame. I have the long arm on my XB-S and I had to lift the tail for the shock to clear the battery tray.

Found a stock extension online. Looks like a easy part to machine when everything is ready to line up. Thank you for the heads up, and info so far. This seems like a pretty easy swap at this point. Now I just have to find a swing arm. I'm sure they are expensive as hell at HD, so hopefully I can find a used one in good condition.

The issue you're going to have is if your bike is pre- 2007, oil lines are different
