man this bike goes from bad to worst they say torque pinch bolt 40-45 foot pounds when i did it stripped out/anybody have a fix for this or do i now have to buy a swing arm? thank you any help will be appreciated

a heli-coil maybe since it doesnt have a register flare, since it goes through a blank portion of the swingarm before hitting threads. I suppose if worse came to worse you might be able to tap it to the next size bolt.

you can do either the heli coil or timesert as Sirius815 stated...take you time doing the repair, try using a T-handle for the bit and tap rather than power tools. use masking tape to set the depth of the bit so you don't punch through, use some sort of cutting oil on the bit and tap...just cuts easier, but not necessary, good luck

you're referring to the rear axle pinch-bolt.....correct? never heard of or saw that happen in my life.[confused]
having said that drain necessary fluids....if vented battery remove same....lay heavy pads and blankets down on shop floor...and gently with assistance lay bike down on left side. makes the job a hell of alot easier. draining necessary fluids mandatory.

what is a timesert?/lunaticfringe this shouldnt surprise you at all this is like a monday built chevy/ i have had it with this thing/40ft lbs and this big 7/16 bolt strips out/i cant imagine a helicoil it has a step so that will not work unless you put sleeve retainer[green] and the helicoil screws in/ maybe il just locktite the axel threads and just drive it/in 500 miles it cost me more than anything i ever owned/ to now have to but a swingarm /i have a $400 dollar aircraft calibrated torque wrench/ somebody must of done something when they changed the rear tire/who knows. now if there is no way to fix this thing except a new swing arm/ i looked at the service manual and there is one thing i cant figure out the bolt goes from the sprocket side correct? so i DO NOT have to open primary case? this bike is unreal/i past up a 5k firebolt for this lemon

Oh come on dont look at is as a lemon. Buells mistake was telling everyone how "little maintenance" needs to be done on these. So the PO didnt take care of them. Im constantly ironing out mistakes on my bike, but its ok, because I then know that its fixed correctly. Once you get it ironed out itll be the best bike ever. :)

yea it is a nice bike just prob the last person who changed the tire screwed it up thoes timeset do they self tap in the aluminum? i put a longer bolt and must of got some threads still there but who knows/if its pinching the bolt/ if someone has a good swingarm complete let me know good bearings so if i have to change it just remove and replace. thanks

i understand. just never saw it happen as the bolt is stout and almost impossible to have been cross-threaded or some other ham-fisted occurrence. just a thought: the bolt is a standard hex cap bolt and it's going into aluminum threads. what about jumping up to the next shaft size in metric....something along the lines of 6mm longer in shaft length....liberal dose of blue loc-tite...and run it in there. it will self-thread if you're gentle with it and lock into place. i mean the rear axle rotates forward and threads in from the right side of the arm so if anything it would tend to tighten up with wheel rotation. opposite of the front axle. just a suggestion

i fixed it till i have to change the rear tire/ i got a bolt a little longer and modified a heli coil to thread back up into swing arm far enough for the green sleeve retainer to grip and hold/let it sit over nite then i used red loctite on the 7/16 bolt and got it tight to hold the axle tight./it worked/but over the winter i will prob.replace the swing arm/ just all the ones i have seen on e-bay are scraped up/i need one from a bike not dropped or crashed./ when i remove the swing arm the bolt comes out the belt side correct? primary cover goes untouched? thanks for your help

Change it during your next oil change. Oil has to come out during the swap anyway.

Might be good time for full flush of the lines as well.

Takes about 2-3hr max depending on how quick you move.
