when i got my buell from my buddy he said he didnt run synthetic oils in it he ran plain jain napa oil now is there a reason to not run synthetic or should i be? bike does run fine like day off show room floor

Definitely run synthetic especially in our bikes since they run hot. A lot of people recommend Amsoil, Mobile1 motorcycle, and royal purple. As for the screaming eagle your paying for name not quality. Just get what you want, don't ask which is better or you'll start yet again another oil war! lol :p

il be buying amsoil ive used it in all my trucks ive always liked it royal purple is least faviorate to me

When I got my bike the guy just used cheep stuff if he changed it at all. I replaced it with Amsoil 20/50 and it runs great. It shifts a lot better with amsoil. No problems with the clutch or anything changing from mineral to synthetic.

some people say to not run synthetic, usually because they believe the Stupid Myths about synthetic vs. regular oils. which are a bunch Bull SSHT!! and because they just dont know what synthetic oil is or how it can help.or how it is made!

do yourself a favor and do some research on sythetic and what they really are and why to use them , for the most part it is and can be better in certain applications,(yes better for buells, can keep engine a little cooler ) some prefer to use regular oil for breakin period and some manufactures do that and alot of the High Performance engine manufactures use synthetics for break in period and for the rest of the vehicles life.

most of the syn makers like Amsoil, Mobile One and Royal Purple have good info and video on the subject of what it is and how it is made. there are many other non oil companies to with that info, just google it.

the best oils out there that we here on buellxb.com use is Amsoil,Mobile 1, RoyalPurple, Lucas, Redline.(not in any particular order).

here is some good links for you on the subject on buellxb.com on oil.

BUT Remember this...
yes OIL is cheap and easy compared to an engine rebuild .or trans rebuild.. your oil and filter is the cheapest insurance for your engine , no matter what you drive or ride , use the best(that you can afford) and change it regularly . its worth it. gotta take care of the buell. and other vehicles for that matter. I would rather pay the extra $5-$10 more per bottle for the best oil for ALL my vehicles including the buell, why take a chance on it just cause you're savin a little $$ but thats my opinion. (the cost isn't going to add to big amount even if you're change 3-4 times per year.)

USE the best that you can afford , same goes for the filter (oil & air)...

it's always better safe than sorry

let me give my 2 cents on this;
i feel synthetic is much better for a few good reasons, for one, it last much longer, in turn makes the price close to the same, in turn has to put a smile on the enviornment :) for those concerened. also i use to ride a susuki 250f (4stroke) dirt bike, my oil would be dark in colour when changed. note you change oil about every 5 to 10 riding hours,
when i used regular oil, it was black,
when i switched to synthetic, drove it for 10 hours, went to change my oil and..... IT LOOKED LIKE NEW! it did not break down. extra note here; when oil breaks down it turns black, that doesent mean its dirty from debris like metal shavings etc... metal, usually the motorcycle synthetic oil gets changed because of condensation (water) build up inside the engine.

i use fully synthetic, all the time, every time.

as far as brand, your really splitting hairs there, but i liked what the anrkizm95 had to say.

as far as 50/50 blends? that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever! there is no advantage to mix an oil that last at least 4 times longer than regular oil.

my 2 cents....ok 10 cents :D

There is absolutely no reason you can't run syn. in a hot running air cooled motor. In fact, it's much better.

As far as what brand? Doesn't really matter much. Everyone has their favorites but it's not like any of them really do a terrible job. Personally, I run Mobil 1 15w50 car oil. Yes, I said car oil. It's more than up to the task and it can be had for $5/qt (1/2 or less of the price of syn. "bike oil") if you catch it on sale. Remember, Buell's have separate oil resevoirs for engine and tranny. The Buell's engine is no different than a car in that regard other than it's a hot running air cooled engine. A good syn. will be able to handle the heat just fine.
The trans is where you have to be careful what you put in. Some car oils have addatives (moly) that don't agree wit the clutches. Anything with the "energy conserving" label on it is a no-no for the primary.

Oh, and don't waste you're money on the "Screaming Eagle" crap. It's not bad oil but why in the world would you want to give any money at all to the greedy SOB's that killed Buell?

I run Amsoil but aside from that just make sure you get a motorcycle specific oil because of the clutch.
