Tell the AMA: Why Ride a Buell?

BTW, this was my e-mailed submission titled: "Why a Buell?"

The Innovation. The Intuitive Cornering. The Eliteness of being a single member of "Bastards" - because we've never been accepted or welcomed into a clique.

Because of the unity, the sense of family, that is born from being a "Bastard". Because of the frequent explanations to the vast majority who haven't a clue what a Buell is, let alone how to even pronounce the name.

Because of the looks, the stares, the thumb-ups, the quizical comments......THE DIFFERENCE.

That's why I ride - and will ALWAYS ride - a Buell.

This is what I had to say.

I have always been drawn to innovation, superior performance, diversity, excellence, honor, dedication, devotion, cutting-edge, and the ability to stand out, Buell has accomplished all of this and more. Buell has choosen their own path, and decided to stray from its competition which make them unique and a exclusive breed of motorcycles. The simplest way to explain why I love the Buell motorcycle is the freedom, individuality, and performace it provides for myself on 2 wheels.

I have owned 3 Buells and to this day still own 2 of them everyone has served me well and been a trustworthy bike. I still love the looks and comments I recieve everytime I ride my Buell. Although Eric Buell has done a great job in designing the motorcycle to suit, I have never been able to leave a car, truck or any of my 3 bikes stock. I have attached my latested Buell, a 2003 XB9R (Firebolt), custom painted, Ss stretched swing arm, Scg tail section, and a plethora of other aftermarket modifications.

Unfortunetly due to lack of knowledge within it sales divisions (Harley Davidson Dealerships), there has been a misfortune as Buell announced it was closing up as a desicion Harley Davidson has made, which was the initial fault in the motorcycles collapse. I deepy feel if Buell was able to regain ownership as a smaller private based company it would maintain its ability to be the leading innovator in the motorcycle world and lead 2 wheeled riders to even more new adventures not know of.

Thanks Brandon Osborne

well i dont have anything that poetic :) but I dont like doin 175 it gets old but leaning over into a corner at 45 and coming out at 75 is a rush. AMERICAN MADE AND BUILT BY HARDWORKING AMERICAN HANDS:D. The unbelieveable power band. Especially all the ruber necks out there are attacted to it like lonly guy to a strip club. Everyones seen a ricer and a harley but no ones seen a buell:(. I'm 16 and i ride with parents+friends harleys and no one cares about them everyones gatta know about me. And the greatest reason of all that I never knew until I found this forum is the comradiary, brotherhood, and up most respect you will find between all the Buellers. UNLIKE any ricer or weekend warrior out there. :D[cool]

Over the last 7 years I have owned 3 Buell Motorcycles. Like many others who choose Buell, I am attracted to the line because they aren’t just like every other bike out there. I once had a friend tell me that he couldn’t tell the difference between the diverse types of motorcycles (of the same style). He had no idea what the difference between a Suzuki GSXR1000 and a Yamaha R1 was. He could however point out how different Buell motorcycles not only looked, but sounded from the other sport bikes. I know that looks and sounds only go so far, but I can attest that Buell motorcycles handle far above any other motorcycle that I have ridden.

I don’t know how many times I have been asked “What kind of bike is that?” while waiting at a stop light sitting on my bike with the Buell logo plain as day on the air box cover. People don’t know about Buell, but that is because people don’t think of Harley Davidson as being synonymous with sport bikes. This and only this is what I believe to be Buell’s only downfall. Every one always thinks of the Japanese/ European imports as being the leaders of the pack, but as we all know Danny Eslick just won the 2009 AMA Pro Road Racing Daytona Sport Bike championship. Buell is a relatively young company and is still getting on their feet, or was still trying to. And Eslick’s win shows that their innovation, concepts, and ideas all extend beyond the reach of the metaphorical box that every other brand seems to be confined to. And their “outside of the box” thinking would have eventually brought them to the top.

It is a sad time for all Buell enthusiasts, as possibly one of the up-and-coming superstars is shot down before they really got a chance to shine.
