for those trying to contact me, my notebook (which i use at home) has been infected.
I've tried to restore it, but got an error in the factory dvd.
this has left me with a notebook without operating system.

so don't panic, i just won't be on as much.

buellxb, i've sent you an email, but as mentioned above, i can not read your answer.

nah...i'm in contact with the helpdesk where i bought the bloody thing.
1 month out of warranty, but still if the factory dvd has an error, it can't my my mistake.

otherwise i just need to get a new operating system, the laptop itself is fine.

So I noticed you didn't state which OS you were using. Linux/Unix, Windows, or MAC? Just curious...

I have several computers all with different operating systems and I have to say, my vista machine is the worst. Don't get me wrong, the features are great, and Media Center is amazing! But it took me 4 times installing vista for me to get it to run right.

Lefox, I vote you switch to Ubuntu.... its free and actually stable. You're a smart guy, you won't have any problems with the new system

LOL, I'm about to transfer all of my media files from my laptop to my new desktop and dedicate my laptop to Linux and Coding. I have Vista on my desktop and what I like the most about it is that it's not on my laptop too...

I'd vote for Ubuntu as well...

I have dealt with 3 vista computers over the weekend, 2 of them had some goofy stuff going on that I wasn't able to fix. (I'm not going start thumping my chest, but I'd consider myself pretty computer proficient)
One just shuts itself off randomly, error log just says "unexpected system shut down" no reason, just that it shut down. (thanks Microsoft, I had that part figured out already)...

The second one was weirder... it would get an IP address, I could ping yahoo, do a traceroute to yahoo, but it wouldn't open the website.

My ubuntu box www.adampascoe.com has been up for 30 days straight with no issues. Only reason it isn't longer was a scheduled restart because of an update. (previous shutdown was caused by my cat playing with the power cord.)

If Counter-Strike would run on my linux box reliably I wouldn't even have a MS pc in my house.

nah...sent it to sony and got it back, restored and with new restore dvd's.

Did they charge you for it or was it covered by the warranty? I know sony's are great products, but sometimes you really have to pay for it.

I think you need a back up computer. I don't know if you have Best Buy over there, but they have this laptop on sale made by Asus, called the Eee PC for $225! It has a 9" screen and is perfect for throwing in your backpack when going on a trip on your bike. Kajer bungees his to the passenger seat on his XB12Ss.

was covered under warranty ;)

got no need for another pc to breakdown on me, thank you :p
