As the title says...she's being a brat. =/
I'll give you a lil background on her. The bike is a 2006 Buell XB9sx with under 12,500 miles. So far, I've managed to put 300. The bike was rebuilt with a firebolt front end and some race fairings. I won't lie, she looks pretty trick. I dig it. Buuuuutttttt, she's been tempremental ever since I got her. The day after I traded my GSXR for it, the CEL came on. I don't really know anything about the electrical aspect of Buells, so I took it to my good friend who is a Harley tech. They plugged it into the computer and it turned out the be the o2 sensor. Ok cool...no biggie. I figured I'd order a new one. My friend explained that I would only get a lil less mileage per tank due to the o2 sensor gone bad. So, I was on my merry way to order the part and then...BAM!! CEL came on again and started flashing. This was accompanied with loss of power. I can't be too sure, but it felt like the bike started to run on 1 cylinder only. The bike began to bog and sputtter. I had to pull over for a bit to let it cool down before I could ride back home. Strangeee...
Yesterday, I decided to take a short trip to go see my girlfriend outta town. 300 miles round trip. I took off in the morning. Bike started fine. I checked that all my electrical parts were working, checked tire pressure, and primary/engine oil. Everything looked good to go. I took off and after about 30 miles the CEL light came on. No loss of power. It didn't flicker. Figured it was the o2 sensor again. I would just roll off the throttle slightly and it would dissappear. "No worries" I thought to myself. So, I continued riding and after another 60 miles...BAM!! CEL flickers and bike sputters again...BADLY. Pulled over, let 'er cool down, and then on my merry way again. Didn't happen again and got to my girls' apartment safely. On my way back home, the same thing happened. Loss of power. CEL flicker. To make matters worse, after I was about 20 miles from home, I noticed that my headlights would dim and then go brighter. Weird. When I looked down at my dash, I noticed that my gauge cluster was dead and my tailight was dead, too. Only the headlights were working.
Today, I woke up and checked the bike. The fuel pump still primes and bike turns on but couldn't ride to work. So far, I've come to these observations:
1) Bike hates life below 2,500RPM
2) Bike hates life above 4,000RPM
3) Bike likes 60-65mph ONLY.
4) Seems like a cylinder cuts out after the bike is really hot. When it isn't that hot, the bike runs alright.
I'm thinking maybe it's all electrical? Possibly the wiring harness? I hate the fact that so soon into our new relationship, we're having problems. Booo
I LOVE Buells...I don't care what anyone says. But geez, I hope it doesn't get expensive. A new wiring harness sounds pricey. I really wanna keep this thing though...just scared of future problems with it. I had a '04 XB12R a few years ago. Thing liked to blow fuses, sputtered, and fried an ECM. It also kept breaking off the front header from the engine block. Bike had that repaired 5 different times. Decided to sell it after the last time it broke.
Jap bikes are fun. They don't seem to have that many problems. My gixxer only went through a r/r and that was about it. I would've kept it, but I coudn't resist another Buell.
Can anyone help me?
