The exhaust pipe is showing up next week and I'm wondering if I'll need a remap. 2009 xb12ss

The general rule of thumb is if you change exhaust or intake and especially if you do both you'll want to adjust the ECM.

introducing a highflow air filter will allow more air into the intake, the ECM can self correct a little bit, but once you open the restriction in the exhaust too, the ECM can't compensate enough to have your bike in optimum performance.

+1 on Midnight. Since you've got an '09, with just a pipe mod, you'll be alright for awhile. At the least, you'll probably need to do a TPS Reset (See below). But always best for the long run, to remap eventually.

'08+ TPS Reset Procedure:

- Have the Run/Stop button set to Run.

- Turn the ignition key to the On position but do not crank or start the engine.

- Open the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.

- Close the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.

- Repeat the throttle open/close procedure a total of three times in succession.

- Turn the ignition key to Off/On

I would NOT put both K&N and an exhaust on. It's an 09, so its not mappable. You're going to have to pick one. Intake OR exhaust. It sucks, I know...sorry.

Pipe or K&N! Considering K&N was $50 and pipe was $950. Not a hard choice. I haven't heard before that 09's can't be mapped. Almost as Buell is discouraging after market pipes.

Check w/ xoptiinside but I believe the 09's can be remapped. You have to reflash your stock ecm and in doing so you'll void your warranty from what I know

Yeah I don't know. The web site is very unclear. If they are mappable, then put both on for sure, but if not, it will be pipe mod only [sad]
