I have looked at 4-5 Buell bikes ranging from x1's to xb9r's and they have been dropped hard, plastics look like crap, run with hardly any oil, just not well maintained at all. I can't believe how bad these buell owners are treating their bikes. Anyone ever come across owners that just trash their Buells and say they're in amazing condition and won't drop their price at all no matter how bad the condition of the bike is?

Yep. I just bought my 09 Buell Lightning this summer, luckily, from a guy that babied it and took great care of it.
The first one I looked at though was beat to death, just totally abused. He kept talking about how it'll do a wheelie in 3rd gear, a good sign to stay away. The 2nd one I looked at had was in better shape but been laid down and scratched up and the guy was asking more than blue book value for it.
Hold out for the right one, it'll come along.

i bought a lemon, i love it even though it hates me. i take care of it, but treat it like a horse that needs to be broken. so if i were ever to sell mine (wont happen) it would come with at your own risk disclaimer.

i think i've purchased the abosultely most stunning used Buell in existence...

1700 miles on an 09 XB12R with ZERO scratches or dings.

the microfiber towel was sliding off of the bike....

i have yet to see a trashed up Buell...well, aside from pictures people post on these forums...

It's not just buells, it's all makes. Just are fewer buells is all lol.

Mine was not greatly cared for but not destroyed. Mechanically is fine, had low miles so not much they could do to hurt it maintenance wise. Was lightly dropped barely any damage, and cosmetically needed a little work. I got a great deal though and with just a little money and work it is better than new.

Unfortunately, just about every bike has been dropped at some point. I have never dropped one(knock on wood) but almost have a couple times. Once recently in some sand, and a couple times in the garage forgetting the kickstand :(

Sometimes it's not even your fault...mine was laying on it's side in the parking lot after work [sad]

Yeah, it's all bikes. When I'm at auction buying bikes the sportbikes generally are the most neglected. I see 2 year old bikes that look like crap and I can't understand how they could do that. Between dropping them and attempting to modify them they look like garbage.

found a shitty blue 9r at a san diego dealership but honestly all the rest of the ones i've seen in CA have been in perfect condition.

one of the reasons i wanted a buell was because the owners took so much better care of their bikes than the jap bikes

jd024: you haven't shopped for a ninja, a gixxer, or a bmw GS lately, have you? many are cosmetic and mechanical pieces of shit described as "stunning", "flawless", "mint condition" and my personal favorite........"never raced or abused".

uh huh!

I actually think you need to be broke in to the bike.
LOLOLOLOLOLO!

haha yeah I have just been looking at Buell. Its amazing how bad they will lie just sell it. drove 5 hours with a buddy just to find out that the odometer didn't work even though he swore up and down that everything was fine.

OMGosh YES! The first '03 Firebolt I looked at was in Yuma. The owners showed me pictures that were old (however, I didn't know that, and since they were people I knew [brother-in-law of another Bueller friend of mine] I took it at face value.). So we drive the 4.5 hours up to Yuma on July 4th to pick up and buy this bike I had been drooling over for WEEKS and man, did I get an eye full when we arrived! It looked awesome at 400 feet away! As we approached, every bolt was rusted and caked in spider webs. Every single bolt, screw and they blamed in on Buell. The belt was original and cracking. The "new" tires were cracking. The wheels looked corroded (not sure how aluminum corrodes, but the guy claimed 'elbow grease' will take care of it). The fork seals were torn, "we've replaced them 3 times (RED FLAG) because my husband LOVES to do wheelies". What other damage would be on that bike... hmmmm. So, we drove home. Lower lip hanging out, tail tucked between the legs. No bike. They wanted $3500 for this thing and I would have to put it in the shop for repairs before I could even get it home! So yes, I feel your pain!

Fortunately, I found another one in beautiful condition owned by a Navy pilot, $500 LESS, and that's the bike I have now! :)

Whats next?
I supposed I should wash it once in a while instead of just riding in the rain... [cool]
