Today I went bike shopping, not actually out to buy one, but just to see. I bought my 1125r because it was the only Buell my dealer had and it was basically brand new. It didn't matter if it was a firebolt, ulysses, lightning whatever, I just wanted a Buell.
So after I got the 1125r I started getting into and researching sport bikes. Since my other bike is a Sportster I hadn't really ever given them much thought past "I want a Buell". Now the feel of riding my 1125r was obviously a huge jump. The riding position is far less comfortable because it's a supersport and it just felt foreign, but I would always read on here how people talked about how much more comfy their 1125r is than other supersports. So today I really wanted to see the difference. I went to the BMW dealer, the Triumph dealer, and the Honda dealer which are all near each other here in Indy to find out.
I sat on CBRs, Gixxers, Ninjas, R6s, the Daytona 675, and the S1000RR. First off, I just wanna say how absolutely awful the r6 is. That is the most uncomfortable bike I've ever had the displeasure of sitting on, and keep in mind I'm skinny and about 6 feet tall in boots so just slightly above average height. The Gixxer beat all the big 4 in my opinion, and the Daytona was pretty nice. The BMW s1000 was the only one that came close to my 1125r, and even then, I still prefer my good ol' American engineered bike.
After experiencing all these bikes I cannot imagine owning any other supersport besides my 1125r. It really made me respect how amazingly well designed and built the 1125 is. The tank and frame allow you to tuck your arms pretty much any way you want, the bars aren't angled as annoyingly, and the sheer amount of space you have for your head and chest between the fairing is just awesome. I'm sure plenty of you guys on here know this as a lot of you came to Buell AFTER riding all the jap bikes etc, but it's incredible for me to have my first supersport bike be the most ergonomic of them all. It pays to be a patriot!
