...so I'm grooving around on my City-X today in the D & I notice at every traffic stop (& in between, to be perfectly honest) that my inner-thigh hairs are being singed off (especially on the RIGHT near the pipes, but the left is no ice-box).
YIKES!
So I tried to spread 'em but wound up looking like a clown on a tricycle.
I pulled the David-Lee-Roth kick out a few times & am sure the neighbors thought I was aiming to take out their mailboxes.

I love this bike but good GOD my legs!

How does everyone else deal w the heat from this beast?
Tape rolled newspapers to your inner thighs?
Clown/DLRoth like I did?
Gel-pack your metal frame w icy-hot?

I know--I'm being silly. It's my way. But I am deadly serious in asking if anyone has had any luck cooling their nether-regions while riding these Buell-mobile-fusion-reactors.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

:D

Fin,
Spec ops makes a heat shield..GOLD..
He takes a bit to make it but omfg you need one,+ the comfort kit.

Finny there is many ways to cool the bikes exhaust AND riders legs as well. The ulysses comfort kit bolts on with mininum work, and works really well. Comes with all needed to do the job w/ a low cost.Header wrap 2inch wide works good & done right will look nice. Just don't pressure wash it.Hawk does some good work as well. But the Comfort kit for the Ulysses bikes has three parts Made for the Buells so it fits perfectly. The rear pipe will have a shield to keep the Thigh from roasting. Make sure to put the Whole Kit on for best cooling Performance. The fan shroud is a part I see in the shop that some don't think is needed but it IS. It takes a little work but well worth the time for the Engine as well as the Rider. Most want the Scoops to match but don't realize the Left cools the Front cylinder mostly. Then the Right does the Rear.Make sure to check with the dealer for the right numbers. Good luck on your decision.*Jimi [cool]

I never had a problem with my XB. But then I always wore jeans and 12" boots.
I did have the Spec Ops under seat heat shield. That was the only warm spot. No juevo cooking here. :D

I put the comfort kit on my bike and it really makes a huge difference. I live in Texas and it's been pushing 95*+ here. I pushed it pretty hard yesterday so when I got home the fan actually came on fo the first time since installing the comfort kit.

I wouldn't have thought it could help that much but it does. I actually rode with shorts the other day for a quick ride into town an back and it was bearable. Whereas pre-comfort kit, it was way too hot, couldn't happen.

Add a few degrees ignition timing to the low rpm map areas and use one of the many stick-on insulation blankets on the inside of the frame rails.

Worked well on my 12R and 12S (and my 1125CR for that matter).

this is a must win game. If the Heat win tonight, it'll be hard for Dallas to win the next two in a row, while on the road.

Are you wearing pants?

Many thanks for the most excellent replies & suggestions. I have read them all & will take heed.

And yes, I have been wearing pants. Jeans, to be exact. Or sport-leathers. But you all seem to know that I prefer to be pantless everywhere else. LOL

Again--y'all rock. :D

fin: i have 07 cityX-XB9R and suffered exactly the same roasted thighs dilemna you describe. the bike ran perfectly, was very close to stock, did all the typical mods, but the heat in and around your inner thigh area was unbearable, especially with shorts on and scooting around local roads. 90 and above temps was out of the question with shorts. solved it with wrapped headers and factory right side uly scoop kit from ASB. you'll see alot of other suggestions on here that are probably spot-on as well but for me, these 2 mods solved the problem completely.

I added some heat shield to the inside of the frame and titanium header wrap. Fan barely kicks on in traffic and my leg stays cool. Also have the right side air scoop and the bottom of the seat and air box covered with shield.

Planning for this summer I went with a right side scoop, Special ops heat barriers front and rear and a heat shield on my header. Still gets pretty warm but its alot better. Fan still runs more than I'd like it to but I'm alot more comfortable.

Thanks guys.

Well I'm rocking the right-side scoop. Haven't wrapped the headers yet--we'll see. ;)
