Where are we going to... somewhere north of Ontario, Canada. Google map shows not many towns. Hopefully I wont be eaten by Polar Bears.

Forget the moose, I'd watch out for chicks in bikinis.

Shammy
Garbage Bags
Bungy Cords
Nylon Rope
1 Quart Oil

Think of this as a backpacking trip. Less is better.

Where are you going? Some place where you won't see a gas station or cell signal for 200 miles?

Wow. I just brought clean socks and underwear and a ATM card on my last trip. Oh and a toothbrush...

Who needs extra clean socks and underwear when you have a toothbrush?

Haha... someone told me once that you can wear one underwear for four days.

Day 1 - Like you would normally wear
Day 2 - Backwards
Day 3 - Flip it and normally
Day 4 - Backwards flipped

Ok mayeb I am over prepared. None of us have ridden or driven that way. I've heard that Canadians traveling from West to East and vice versa drive south to USA and then go cross country because the Canadian highway are deserted in most sections.

I did not see anyone mentioning about me missing something. So I guess I must have got it all and a lot more. Lets see what a few more others have to say and I will revise my list.

you forgot the kitchen sink.:D if your rideing that far into the sticks dump the bike wash and shammy and take a hand gun.

Check out the Iron butt website. They have an excellent list of long ride tips. Where in northern Ontario? Wayne

I guess it wouldn't matter as much on a lightning. I found it extremely uncomfortable to turn with it, I wanted to lean towards the tank and to the side, but it was always in the way. Also, the tank is a great place to put your arm, and you can't with the tank bag.

If youre going to take a camp stove, MSR (Mountain Safety Research) makes one that runs on automotive fuel.

Unless you're taking a spare tire, i'd forget the compressor.

I would ride with the tank bag for a little while to see if you're comfortable with it.

Personally, I would take a small pot to cook everything you need, even to boil water if need be. MSR makes excellent and compact camp gear.

When I did my Saddle Sore 1000 for the Iron Butt I got the bladder and hose for a CamelPack and put that in my tank bag. It was a lifesaver. Running down the road I could safely have a sip of water and not miss a beat. Dehydration is the enemy.

This is a good post. It really gives you lots to think about. I really love my tank bag so i will need to do a trial run with and with out. are you saying off road it gets in the way or all the time. mine does not bother me at all, but I never went off road with my buell. Yet! I will.

Let me try and justify or defend my list. Dont want you to think I am a nut a case. Maybe its already too late or too obvious, haha. I was thinking what will I need in the following scenarios.

1. Run out of gas. You need at least an empty gas tank and a siphon tube. You cannot siphon out gas from most modern vehicles. So your best bet is to carry some gas yourself.

2. Forgot to turn off the key and the battery dies. This can happen when you are distracted by chicks in bikinis. I guess most cars carry a jump start cable. Hopefully the clamps will fit.

3. Clutch cable breaks. Need a new cable and tools to replace it. Plus 1 quart oil.

4. Tire puncture. Need a tire repair kit and a mini pump to get going again.

5. Saddlebags or Tail bag straps break. Need a way to tie it to the bike.

6. Cannot find any motels to stay. Cannot find a place to eat. Very unlikely though. I am counting on my Brother in Law's trip planning talent.

7. Stuff happens and you need to push your bike to the next town. Kidding here. Getting it towed is an option.

I am hoping that if I have it I will never need it. Isn't that how things work out anyways. Seriously though, I plan to cut my list in half and share the load.
