Thinking about Picking up a Harley..

That would be a long day on the Buell I bet Delta. 500 miles on the bird takes me around 6 hours depending on what I think I can get away with in avoiding losing my license.

You are correct on the lineage you laid out BTW and although I am partial to my blackbird for sentimental reasons mostly, the ZX14 is the bike Honda should have built to replace the CBR1100XX. Other than being uglier than sin it has a bottom end much stronger than the birds and the top end rush is something that has to experienced. The bird is scary enough, that thing is in another league altogether. On top of this, it handles better and is super comfortable for long days in the saddle.

a harley pulled up next to me at a stop light today with a 40 oz fountain drink in a cup holder attached to his bars.i was laughing so hard i stalled when the light turned. get a car already.

Here is the new HD for 2011. its got a custom seat designed by the CEO's for the customers.

I have done 10+ hours on lady Buell before calling it a day, while stopping only for gas, keeping my pit stops under 15 min, sometimes with less than 600 miles traveled (dang construction zones and Chicago traffic/tole booths slowing me down) but I was good to ride the next day after a trip like that.
I did just shy of 1,500 miles between mid Friday and Sunday eve for the buell homecoming event.

I am still thinking about a ZX14 for my next bike, I rode a friends and loved it. I never got it over 55mph but it was the bottom end I fell in love with. I could short shift it and still chug around at 3000 rpm no problem. (I get tired of 6k rpm just to get off the line or do the speed limit like the F4i I used to always ride)
the ZX14 is my dream for a long haul bike if they would import the ABS like they have made available to other continents in the past (or so I read) because shutting down all that extra weight (including gear and an extra fuel tank) in the rain would suck without help

but the appeal of a modern I4 liter bike may be overwhelming for me and I may try and go that route.
(but Ill be keeping the Buell because it does SO well down town)

LOL, I've wasted 1/2 hour and already working on my third beer, it's better than cable. Please guys keep it up, oh by the way, buy whatever bike you want, after all it's your money.............

i said about the same thing in this thread last year right before HD axed Buell. checkout the pic here
Chrome Couches & Cup Holders ???
i think when I'm way to old(100yrs+) & cant handle my buell i might give it up or die trying or just drive my cage or make something like a can-am only with a buell look and big Vtwin. not a chrome couch...

a few of us just covered over 4000klms in five days on our buells. ride all day and then drinking well into the night. one was a gal on a xb9sxcg. [cool]

the boss hoss is ok, and sure maybe it beat the car but its nothing against a modern I4, even in a drag.

Some of the Boss Hoss I saw in videos were making 700-800hp. Some of the cheaper ones only make 300-400. Despite the traction, handling and weight, I'd be willing to bet one of the faster BH could keep up with a zx12. Regardless, the whole point was 'if I had to get a cruiser'. If I just wanted the fastest thing out there, it definitely would be a japanese sportbike.

you know, now that i think of it ! HD(and hd look a likes) is like a mini van now , everyone's neighbor has one. AND THEY ALL LOOK AND DRIVE THE SAME, not to mention you look like a (insert your thought here) driving one.like this guy

at first I thought this was a commercial for HD

one of the better HD commercials the posers funny

if it had the gearing for 200+ I bet dropping the hammer on the highway could result in keeping up with the ZX maybe even toasting it. but from a standstill, no, not with conventional cruiser rubber. slap a drag slick on that thing, yea you could eat a sport bike for every meal of the day.

but if you want the baddest cruiser out there that doesn't cost as much as a corvette Z06 try the rocket III, its INSANE for a full production bike

It doesn't help that half the people who ride them just slap a car tire on the rear because they eat through tires so fast. You can be cruising down the highway, go full throttle and just have the rear tire break loose and start spinning. That's it's own kind of fun.

I've always liked that odyssey commercial with the black panther and fireworks.

boss hoss's have too much power to weight ratio....they can not make use of the power they have; they break traction and at that point you are just spinning your tire.

Have you ridden the 883 on the highway yet, if you hav'nt you'll think differently. I hope.

Are we still comparing an 883 with a Buell? Really? ?Really? If you's people are not happy with your Buell's i'm sorry, but if you think your get more out of an 883 your stupid. I just don't get it. You say you want to save putting miles on your Buell, so you go buy a bike that costs the same or more then the Buell. Go buy a second Buell for you daily bike and keep your favorite Buell safe with low miles in the garage. You can buy a different model to get the total Buell exp. Have your cake and eat it too. You will never justify buying an 883 over a second Buell ever on this site. Never ever ever! Because it doesn't make sense!

Did i miss something? Could someone bring me up to date on this post as i'm too lazy to read the PREVIOUS 9 PAGES !!!!!! OMG !!!!! [mad]

Actually I can justify it, but this thread is ridiculous. No matter how hard you try, the 883 is going to be the more comfortable bike. Done. Justified. Now stop posting on this shit. To each their own so you all need to shut the hell up and let everybody have their own separate opinions.

ditto brightbuell... i have my 2009 XB12R freaking love that bike and i believe it will be hte last air cooled buell i will own. EVER! i have owned 5 prior. so i have since bought a 2009 1125CR. now this bike is freaking awesome. so much more power and fast fun. so that is now my daily. i will enjoy it and cherish it, but my oompah is the jizz! that firebolt will be in my garage to enjoy always.

now, if you are telling me that you guys can buy a second buell for hte same as a piece of crap sporty,t hen why wouldnt you. ifyou own a bolt, then get a lightning. mix it up and enjoy your favorite brand...

and get off this fukn stupid topic on how fuk'd up HD is... we all know it. so lets move on.

I just took a look at the last two or three posts;

yes, to each his own.

personally, why would you want to have two Buells - isn't that kind of redundant. Possibly, I could see a lightning AND a CR or maybe a vintage tuber.

however, would it not be nice to have the buell for power touring/sport riding and then a nice Nightster, Iron 883 or Forty-eight to take out to bike night? When I ride my buell I am typically wearning "all the gear" and ready for battle. However, on a harley for a short ride or "Cruise" you might have some jeans, old-skool boots a tee shirt, open helmet, etc. Plus your girl would look cool on the back ridin' low instead of way up above you getting bugs in her teeth as on the Buell.

Again PERSONALLY - it would be nice to have bikes with two different personas.

i am not in the market currently, but am thinking of a true long distance tourer (cross country and or nova scotia kind of stuff) and although looking at beemers I am also considering a Road King with a small fairing, side hard bags, and spoked rims - possibly in a "blacked out" theme. with only a bit of chrome.

one more time - just my 2c. Vive' Variety!
