throttle/idle cable disconnected?

I just had the problem after doing the tps reset on my 08 uly and with the ebr ecm it would cut out and pop and just die out after 1/2 throttle. I was looking over my bike last night after a bunch of mods and realized that the throttle cable or idle cable, it has the plastic locking nut on it was unscrewed out of the housing and was at a little of a angle. Would this cause the tps reset not to take properly and cause all this back firing/etc? With stock ecm it runs great, but I have noticed the idle is pretty high when its cold and when its warm it barely idles. When I adjusted it I noticed the farther in the more slack in my grip, so I adjusted it so there's maybe 1mm of slack to no slack area. I don't have a manual, so am wondering why my ebr pre-programmed didn't work right the 1st time i installed it was it cuz of this? I had a ecm from harley a year ago that they programmed and it did the same thing popped and misfired after 1/2 throttle. So maybe this has been disconnected for a while?
