Throttle position sensor

My bike ('08 xb9sx) started running funky last night and today, wanting to die at idle and really lagging at 4000 to 4500 rpm. i did the jumper thing for the codes and got code 11, throttle position sensor. does this mean it's bad and i have to get a new one, i reset the tps per the '08+ routine and still getting code 11.

Joel, I would look around a bit for loose connectors or frays, but... It sure sounds like you need a TPS. [sad]

I looked around the tps and nothing looked out of place. $70-90 bucks for one, OUCH.

So looking at my service manual, it says to remove the throttle body in order to remove the tps[mad]. it almost looks like i could do it w/o taking off the throttle body, anybody ever attempt it? the lower bolt is real close to the rear rocker cover. (i just had my motor rotated a few months ago to do the front and rear rocker gaskets[mad][mad])

Hi Joel!
In my little aftermarket cross reference, it shows a DuraLast# of TPS213- Should be off a '93 Mustang. Take your old one along to verify it! Perhaps (?!) your original one MIGHT have a Ford number on it too!

So you can get the tps out w/o any problems. tiny 7mm wrench, the bottom bolt just touches the rocker cover. Wheew! now just to locate one, local hd stealership is out 7-10 days (suprise!) ASB has them also Lshd & surdyke. guess i'll have a few days down time. pics for your enjoyment!......

also, i don't think the duralast tps213 will fit on '08+ XB's.

It IS definately a Ford sensor....I'd go see a GOOD NAPA store or a GOOD parts store that has BOOKS with illustrated pics in them! (YES..They DO exist!).

They use them on BMW"s, cars & bikes. autozone has them for around $80.00. lil' cheaper than everywhere else. #TPS4129 (duralast).

Got it done[up]. aftermarket tps works fine, a little cheaper than the stealership & way easier to get, but they still don't give them away. $80.00 (Autozone), this will work on '08+ XB bikes. bike works fine now, no wacky idle & seems to run smoother on acceleration.

Hi,
Does anyone out there know were I can get a TPS for a 07 XB12R, I have been having the same troubles as Joel, but $90 to $100 odd is not what I had in mind. So any help from anyone would much appreciated.

Okay so can any one verify that the duralast# TPS4129 will work on 07+ bikes? I'm looking at pictures of it online and it doesn't look compatible, it has no wiring.

Duralast TPS4129 for '08+ buells.

Duralast TPS213 for '06- '07 buells.

ASB is listing a different TPS sensor for '03-'05.

from what i'm reading the TPS213 doesn't work on the 07's as the tangs are in different locations (6&12 vs 4&8 o'clock). Take a look at the attached bulletin. It looks like late model 06's & 07 have there own style TPS.

call me a dummie but I read the jumper code instructions but where is the diagnostic port? pic of it's location? I don't have access to my Buell right now...wrong coast!
