. I just finished heat cycling and a couple short rides on my 1250 rebuild ( 04 XB12r). I have the hammer 1250 kit , K&N , Jardine . I am running fuel maps that mike ( Xoptinside) did for me awhile back that i tweaked a bit but I went back to the stock timing maps because they looked less aggressive than the race maps or the timing maps xopti provided. I am still wondering about there being too much advance for the 10.5:1 compression the kit has . THe bike is running pretty well , I'm just concerned about too much heat from excessive advance for the high comp pistons. Anyone have experience with timing on the 1250 kits with 10.5 compression pistons?

Thanks in advance J. Ekins

I am putting the hammer 1250 kit in mine this upcoming weekend or next week (when everything comes in). I asked Dan about it over the phone and he basically told me I was going to be handling everything via a fuel map, and that no mechanical timing needed to be adjusted. Either way, any information that you come up with will be very helpful. I would also like to work something out with you to get a fuel map to get me started after I finish the install. Thanks for any help.

i can totally hook you up with a fuel map I'm using . it is pretty solid before and after the rebuild . I was reading Aaron's break in instructions after the higher comp pistons needing less timing than even HD stock maps . the suggestion was approx 7 degrees less advance in general but I was not sure if that applies over the entire map for a buell XB. My motor is running ( dark horse balnced crank/ hammer combo is huge improvement!) fine it seems after the initial heat cycling and first 2 rides . I have 22 miles on it right now and the only issue seems to be a hotter engine - my concern is wether it is the rings breaking in and the process or is the timing too advanced causing the extra heat . For reference my static timing is straight up centered and i did a TPS reset before first firing the engine .I will PM you the eeprom from my bike when I save off the latest values this afternoon.

I wanted to give this thread a bump and see if anyone new sees it.

I've got my 1250 build on the road and I haven't been able to get ahold of Xopti.

That 1250 kit sounds like fun.

Boosting compression should produce more heat given the other variables remain constant. The engine in compressing more. If you don't have the right side air scoop then you should get one. My wife and I both have XB12Rs. Both of the bikes have similar up grades (slip ons, K and N, open airbox, race map). I put the Right Side Scoop on mine first. We did a trip to the beach ( 2hrs highway and side roads). We got to our destination her bike felt twice as hot as mine (Sorry, no temp gun... but to the touch her frame was hotter and the fan ran forever). So I ordered the scoop for her bike and the next ride we did was a similar trip and hers was now just as cool as mine. The fan barely comes on now.
I got the scoops from Harley. They have the inner and outter scoops that is part of the Uly comfort kit. They match the standard left side. This will definately help cool your bike.
The part numbers are M0851.7AA and M0852.7AA and the two parts should cost about $60,00. You will need three screws to complete the assembly. I used a local hardware store and got stainless allen heads. You will be amazed!
If I could figure out how to transfer pictures I'd post a couple.

true, but changing a pipe is far more affected by fueling changes than it is timing.

so for the better of the shadetree population, its better to leave those alone.

in fact, unless youre on a SS dyno, you shouldnt mess with it at all....... (unless youre confident in your ability to rebuild your engine.)
