Tire change.. at dealer.. final price...

I have been buying tires from motorcycle super store when they go on sale then saving them until mine need to be changed usually they have free shipping if you spend more than $100 too. I remove the wheels from the motorcycle and take them to the local independent shop it cost about $35 for the mount and balance. I can get a new rear tire on my bike <$200 vs the quoted stealership price of $400.

I just put a set of Angles on at my local dealer since I know the service manager and they treat me pretty good with the prices and service. I pulled my own wheels off and it cost me $325 M&B out the door. $25 to M&B per wheel know matter where I buy the tires. They even cleaned up my wheels and got the sticky part of the old wheel weight off, thats a pretty uncommon thing since you usually leave with dings not clean wheels.

I charge double labor for internet tires and there is no warranty for tire problems. Bottom line is that time is time. I need to cover overhead to keep the lights on. Support your local independent shop.. screw the internet.
So if time is time, why do you charge double? You or your tech are spending the same amount of time changing a tire no matter where it comes from. I buy tires on the internet and my local shop charges the same no matter where they come from. They figure $70 a set is $70 they use to pay the bills. If they were to charge double they would lose that money because someone else will do it.

WOW! I got a set of bto16 front and rear from fleabay for $225 new and the shop put em on for $40 and 20 min. total time. been that way for years here on all my rides. You guys ane getting ripped.

That's a good deal. My guy charges $35 each, but then again it's in San Diego, Ca. Higher rents, but after he did this he got a customer for life out of me. Had he said $140 because I didn't buy from him, I would have never went back.

He charges double because he doesn't get the profit from the tire sale. Like he said, he has a shop and overhead.

As long as he explains it all up front, what's the problem?

Don't like it, shop somewhere else or do without.

Everybody's against capitalism when it happens to them.

Bluestreakracing.ca doesn't charge m+b when I take the wheel in.

He still makes a profit, I get to save my cash. Capitalism at work.

I agree totally with you, not with the guy who shuns mounting tires because he didn't get the tire sale. My shop didn't get the sale but he got $70 labor. That keeps the lights on and helps pay the rent and the mech. The local Discount Tires has the same policy even if I buy car tires from Discount Tire Direct.com. Double the M+B, fuck them! Bears Tires down the road does it for $18 bucks a piece! Don't tell me I have to spend more since your my local shop! :D I earn my money too and I look for the best deal. unless the local shop is feeding my family I could care less if they get my survive. Compete, and you will get my business.

Lamarchangel hit it. I know I need to make X on a tire sale, which is made on tire profit plus labor. I am an approved installer for MC Superstore and see the invoiced prices paid. Last week I had a BT016 rear come in for a guy from MC Superstore. Doing a quick comparison he did save money.... $5.82!! Most of that was sales tax. I just get fed up with folks thinking a shop don't deserve a profit.

I think guys get tired of dealers "stealing" their money. I don't think it should cost 70-80 bucks to change a front tire. I think that job should be 30min tops. The only reason I did it is because I needed a tire ASAP and didn't want to spend the initial 150 for motorcycle stands, or a jack, and a torque wrench.

Customers are more likely to return to the shop/store when they feel like the service provider is actually trying to take care of them and help them save money while providing a valuable service == return business and recommendations. Sure you gotta work your ass off, but that is also "capitalism at work."

I think there would be a lot less people trying to do it themselves if they didn't feel like they were getting raped every time they bring their vehicles to a shop.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't go to a guy that charges $70 either.

There are two shops here that don't charge any extra when you buy the tires off them.

The one shop has the lowest prices anywhere for tires, he gets my business. Bluestreakracing.ca is about a 40 minute drive for me, it's a nice drive and he's good company. He's been in the racing industry for a long time.

It's an easy decision.

$70 bucks a pop at three tires a year would pay for stands, changer and the tires themselves by mid third year. By that time, I'd be making extra money doing this as well.

Another easy decision.

My point is that if the shop is upfront then using words like stealership and rapist is too harsh. Commerce is a two street. He isn't forcing you to take his deal, however, these comments indicate that you are trying to force him to take your deal. That's spoiled brat behavior not business.

Walk, learn or pay.

ASAP - you pay.
Don't invest in tools - you pay.
Don't shop around - you pay.

Take time - you save.
Invest in tools - you save.
Shop around - you save.

A whining customer is no business investment.

This is just like real life.

btw, he did say it was half that if you bought the tire from him so there's your deal.

That's about right for the bigger shops around here.

Have a good friend with a great little independent shop in Chimacum, WA near Pt. Townsend. He has a Snap-On computerized spin balancer. Can’t remember the make of tire machine but he can do any HD, Buell or Metric wheel without removing the sprockets.

If the wheels are off the bike he charges $20 per wheel. If on the bike its $100 for both wheels. (Xtreame Dreamz Motprsports Performance, Travis Lopeman, 360-301-4094).
