Today I went to go out and as I was leaving my driveway, I realised I'd run over a nail yesterday with my front tire. While I know I absolutely should replace it, CAN I just patch it for now? If so, whats the best way to do it? It'd really be a shame to toss out a tire with only a cpl hundred miles on it. And money is a factor right now. Also, when I do replace it, whats the best tire to get? Thanks. :)

plug it, pretend it is the hot red head, plug it once and keep an eye on it until something new comes along

Seriously plug it but get one of the kits that has the super glue stuff, it'll have a better chance of holding. My buddy did this and it lasted 3k miles(till the tire was bald).

Ok, I'll go out tomorrow and get a plug kit. I've never had a flat on a bike til now. I'm just glad it happened in my dooryard and not the other side of Orlando. LOL I know how it happened too. Theres been a crew here replacing my roof the last three days and I must have run over it as I was pulling into the carport. Live and learn.

+1 to pluggin the tires.

I havnet plugged street bike tires but i have plugged plenty of car and dirtbike tires, and if dirtbike tires hold up i would say your safe with the plug.

Cool not far at all. A few of us go on rides sometimes. Haven't been much lately but come fall/winter we probably will more often.

i have used slime in my tires with great success.
and if i run over something it seals. I haven't run into a balance problem. just check your air often . Enlarging a hole to put in a plug seems like a bad idea... the best solution is: Pull the tire and have them patch it from the inside then your good to go. it a front tire right? .Easy to pull.[up]

ever try to pull a plug out after about 100 miles of it being in there?

Leave a little tail on it, you'll be fine.

It'll stick especially if you use the glue. Never had one come out on car tires and my buddy's stuck on his bike without issue.

Even IF it didn't stick, it wouldn't cause a wreck, it's a small hole, the tire wouldn't explode or anything like that.

I've always used ones that are really sticky, tar like. I don't even use the glue, they've held up on dirt bike tires and I even have a couple plugs in the tires I use on my car for auto cross.

A few times while getting gas i have noticed a nail or someting in my car tire and I usually get it pulled, and plugged fast enough that if air is readily avail I can make it to the next stop.

LOL I didn't mean for this to turn into a debate. :p So...what I'm going to do is put in some slime AND a plug. I'm not looking for a permanent fix. I don't even expect it to last for more than a cpl hundred miles. I'm moving back up north at the end of the month and I'll be near a cycle shop and plan on replacing the tire then. I only need the temp fix to last me until I load the truck. I do appreciate the info from you guys tho.

So, next question....whats the best replacement tire to get and the size, if anyone knows it offhand? That way I can have it waiting for me when I get up there.

I would NOT use slime. That stuff coats the inside of the wheel, tire, and valve stem. Granted you'll likely want to replace the valve stem with new tires anyway, but the slime doesn't hold up from my experience. Used it on a riding lawnmower tire and it lasted about a month. I then took the tire off to get it patched from the inside and couldn't clean all the slime **** out of the tire so couldn't get it patched. Also it was a bitch cleaning the wheel off for the new tire.

I should have just used a plug lol.

if your riding a blast (thread is in the blast section), get pirelli diablos
front: 110/70-16
rear: 140/70-16
lots of blast owners use them and i have never heard anything bad about them
