I ride year round (most days) in Colorado, I currently run dunlop 207's and I dont like them because they take to long to warm up on cold days and dont handle road debris like gravel and sand they put down in the winter.
I am looking between the dunlop D616 and the pirelli scorpions, does anyone have any first hand comparisons of these two. I am leaning towards the dunlop because they make a 190/50/17 and like the wider look

that's 2 against your choice :p

1. pirelli is better
2. the 190 will make your bike unstable

I like the pilots, they are very predictable, and stick well for a DOT.I ride my XB9R to work every day,I leave at about 5am,and they are good to go by the time I hit the freeway.;)

in what way is the perelli better?
better in grip, performance in wet weather/roads.
and ofcourse better than any 190 tire on a buell wheel.

you have a 12 or a 9?
and as what type of rider would you describe yourself? (tourer, sporty, race, commuter, etc)

I have a 2003 xb9sl, I use the bike mostly as a daily commuter with the occasional canyon ride, my concern is the warm up time (it gets below 0 in the winter) and the ability to handle road debree or some minor dirt roads.

lot of freeway, few twisties, no offroad
- michelin pilot road²
- pirelli diablo strada

lot of freeway, few twisties, offroad
- michelin anakee
- pirelli scorpion sync

Mine had Scorpions on it when I bhought it. They were awful. I replaced them with a set of michelin pilots. II love them and they improved the handleing of the bike a lot.

what is the typical mileage you would expect out of the pilots. with commuting not beating them[smirk]

on which bike?
it's obvious that they would last longer on a 9 instead of a 12, but i would say somewhere between 8000 to 10000 miles.

but when going offroad after they are nice & warm, the chance of a puncture is too high and handling is far below average, since the pilot isn't made for that.

They seemed harder and had less traction the pilots. The bike seemed to handle better overall with the pilots. The pilots had more of a crown to them than the scopions too. I don't know if that was due to the way they wore.

you are right, but it's not due to the way they wore...it's how they a fabricated.

the pilot is a streetrace tire also used for the occasional track days or amateur racer.

the scorpion is a street/communter tire which can do that bit of offroad thanks to its profile.

I rarely ride aggressively so the scorpions sound perfect, I ordered some and will have them put on at my next service in late Aug.
