so today i decided to start replacing my top end. took everything aparts. all i got to say is , those shell comercials are total bs, i had so much carbon buildup on the heads and pistons it was like chocolate cake. the thing is all i use is shell gas. here are some pics of it aparts. i allready started to polish the heads and valves, i figured why not.

Dammit, I drive 2 miles out of my way to get a shell station. I get a sick feeling when I have to use anything but. I'll use texaco too but there aren't any around me. only shell, citco, and like chevron and ****.

I use BP 93 no ethanol added the majority of the times I fill up and I only had a light carbon coating on the inside of my heads and on the pistons after 20k miles. It seemed to have worked well for me.

2004 XB12R + factory race kit, custom dyno tuned

the custom tuning may be what helped me the most, less extra gas sometimes

I use Moonshine, I got gas at Love's Truck Stop and realized that I'd be better off making my own fuel.

Not only do I burn cleaner, I get hammered when I pump.

well i got 55k+ on this motor. i only use shell, i have k&n race map ect. but wha i did find out when i tore it apart was. one of my valve seats was bad and i was gettin blow thuru and possibly leaking oil inside the piston.

55k and all the bearings on the bottom end are solid? I envy you, the rollers on my connecting rods failed at 20k.

top end rebuilds are easy, splitting those cases can be a PITA

yea i have my motor apart as we speak as well and have seen others and there always clean... if yours is cakey (like mine is) your gettin blow by and stuff... mine was a bad valve seal in the top... ive also seen them do the same things with valve guides going bad... all in all if you have crusty flakey stuff its all burnt oil not the gas you were running... unless of couse you grabbed the green handle and they some good diesel in her...

its 4 am here.polished the heads and valves reseated the valves today. put the top end together. got the frame/forks and wheel on. alls left to do is sub frame and plastics.

did you go all out on the heads and valves? Flow bench and the whole nine or the at home dremel route? either should help with combustion and exhaust pressure.

no just dremel no porting tho just polishing it looks like chrome in there. well shes all dont started up on the first crank.
