Got it done<img src="/smilies/up.gif" width=”15px” height=”15px” border="0">. aftermarket tps works fine, a little cheaper than the stealership & way easier to get, but they still don't give them away. $80.00 (Autozone), this will work on '08+ XB bikes. bike works fine now, no wacky idle & seems to run smoother on acceleration.

Can anyone confirm that this will work on my '08 xb12r?

Getting the erratic idle, then spitting, then stall on warm up. TPS reset not working. After warm up it idles fine. Thinking it is bad TPS.

Found this in other model thread... http://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?32985-Throttle-position-sensor

though you're "thinking" that it might be a faulty tps unit.....i'm "thinking" it is probably either an IAC unit that either needs maintenance or replacing. OEM unit is now NLA but i have a few new-in-box units still available for board members if needed and a few bucks UNDER original dealer list. read this link. the original initiator of the thread never responded with either a "worked for me"...."that solved my problem"...."thanks a ton for the help"....or "stick it up your ass john"...but that's not unusual for on here.

Update.

Took her apart down to where I had access to the IAC.
Removed IAC.
Cleaned port w/q-tips and carb cleaner. See picture with crap I removed.
Cleaned IAC unit.
Final clean all with dry towels.
Reassembled.

Started right up and idled for 10-15 seconds at around 1100 rpms then went into 800-1200 sporatic idle then stalled.
Started right up again and did same thing.

Went for camera to take video.

Started it and it warmed up perfectly at 1100 rpms without a hiccup.

Did not do a TPS reset afterwards.

Plan is to run it a bit and do some cold starts. If it still acts up should I replace the IAC unit?

Thanks again.

Here are some pics... Forgot to take "before" pic so the port shows after cleaning.

traditionally when the IAC unit fails all-together it dumps fault code #34 into the computer and activates the CEL.
having said that i'd be damn careful with all of the "cold start checks" as you'll be replacing the plugs in short order. mapping on these bikes during cold start very, very "rich" on the fuel side as it is with all EFI bikes including open loop mode.

Once again, thanks LF for the guidence. Cleaning the IAC seemed to work. Start up has been much smoother, no spitting and stalls, and bike is running good.

thanks for the kind words and always my pleasure. most of that gunk that you observed on your Q-tips is the direct result of the factory PCV system. a breather re-route if not already on your bike is a nice easy evening project with alot of bang for the buck.

Been on a few rides including one today in 50 degree weather and she is purring like a kitten. Warm-ups are flawless and without a single hiccup. Also know I put new NGK's in when i had it apart and discovered after 14k miles it still had the original plugs in it. I can really feel better pull up high and more smoothness overall. Thanks again.... I will be including the IAC cleaning and maybe new plugs (since so cheap) in my routine maintenance. Thanks again.

A TPS reset is a Quick way on an 2008 plus bike. by Throttle to see if it will run properly. Nice job on cleaning the IAC.area.
Might be time to get a new one in the near future. The Breather reroute is a great upgrade.
Engine Switch set to run.
Turn on key switch. Do not start the Engine. let the fuel light go off.
NOW twist the Throttle three times fully wide open slightly firm. and let close each time.
turn off key switch Only.
Now turn on Key switch right away fuel light goes off. NOW start the Engine. Let it Idle for at least close to a minute.
Rev., the engine smoothly to about 2500 rpms let off the throttle each time.shut down the Bike. Turn it back on Light goes out Restart Engine . let it idle see if it stays running. Also DCPR9EIX ngks work well.
A Simple reset. that needs to be done several times a year. Good Luck hope this helps. Jimi
