Hi all,

Just picked up my first Buell last week. Its on 05 XB9R. The bike ran fine when I test rode it but now its running lean. I can smell fuel after a few minutes of running. Loses power right around 3.5-4k rpms. I was told to check the spark plugs and do a TPS reset. I have the ECM USB cable and install new NGK plugs. Downloaded Mono runtime and ECMspy. Connect to the bike and start the software but when I try to connect to the ECM is there is no database for my ECM and I need to activate on the site and select BUECB type but they want me to donate $70 first. Do I have to pay to do a reset or am I missing something?

Ahh. Now that looks familiar. Followed the tutorial but now it just clicks when I try to start. Probably a lose wire.

BTW, you can do a TPS reset with EcmSpy 2.0 without donating. You can't modify the firmware/mapping without donating, but you don't need to do that to reset the TPS.

Just dismiss the error message and go on to do the TPS reset the standard way.

However, EcmSpy 2.0 is amazing software and entirely worth paying for if you want to explore further.

Wires look fine. Dont know why its all of a sudden just clicking. The previous did the extra ground mod. Think that might be the problem?

Well its not the normal clicking that you're probably thinking of. The whole bike shakes. Seems if its getting enough juice from the battery and sparking the plugs but no ignition. I wonder if I messed something up on the TPS reset.

Ok. Got a new battery and new wires. So its starts now. Thats progress. However I still cant get the TPs reset to work from the youtube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i33__Qkvhn4. I follow it to a T. I back off the adjustment screw all the way, Reset TPS and then adjust it to 5.3-5.5 degrees. At this point the screw is almost all the way screwed in. The most I can get to around 6 degrees. Start the bike at 5.3 but idle is really low, 700-800 rpm. And it warms up way to slow. Would take over 30 minutes to get to the 140 degree point to set the idle like the vid says. When it does warm I set it to 1100 rpm I get really bad backfire. Not sure what else to do. Bike does have Jardine exhaust and airbox delete.
